i must say it again: shes awesome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yep... sure looks like a really good ship

Nice work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Looks very good; how are you making her? Maya?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->yes,most work was done in maya,i'm not quite familiar with MAX.

Wow... glad to see another member getting Maya to work properly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

That was quite a surprise. Out of the blue comes a finished, perfect model. Because, it IS perfect, apart from lying too high in the water and lack of tumble home compared to the original...

Do you have any pictures from work in progress?

The model is perfect and so is the texture! Only the sail plan needs some work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

i haven't left any working pic for the early time of modeling, here are some pics of the later time of working progress.

Beautiful ship.

Would you be willing to release the raw maya model as well as the finished and ready to use mod?

Yes, me too! Thanks to Colbert, Louis could afford to build such a beauty <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
She must be the most modeled ship in the world..

Thank you red10october. That looks like a advanced mesh, you must be very skilled. How many models did you build before this and how long did it take you to build such a complex model?

now THAT ship i like! it's a shame the sail texture degenerates the image a bit. it looks magnificent.

Actually i made some models before this ship in maya.but for a sailing ship it was my first time to do so.because of a lacking of exp. in building tall ship model,i spent a looong time in this model, and texturing is very tough for me.
i came to this forum 4 years ago,i do love sailing ships like you mates,so i decided to make a ship, especially when i was inspired by the soleyru which was an original ship in COAS,but the model is NOT good enough,i think.

by the way,i'd like to ask who exactly designed this grand ship? wiki says she was built by Laurent Hubac,is this man the designer?

is the CoAS soley ru not a retextured AoP MoW??
Your soleil royal looks better than the AoP MoW.

He is the main designer, yes. Incredible, the frogs kept their archieves for us to know. King Louis XIV (or just the 14th) spend a lot of money, and if it was'nt for his state administrator, a guy named Jean-Baptiste Colbert, France would have gone bankrupt before 1700. He took care of the administration and taxes and found finances to enhance France's fleet. It is said, he ordered Le Soleil Royal to honour Louis, dont know if it is true (Soleil Royale = the sun king = Louis 14). The ship is most famous for its battle at Barfleur, she had a very short battle and had to go out for repairs. She burned in a later battle.

EDIT: That is not true. She is most famous for leading the french fleet as the flagship into an anchored and surprised english fleet in th battle of bezeviers/beachy head.
Thats all I know, I packed my books down. I dont know much about Hubac, sorry. In our archieves, we learned mostly from Holland in that period (=espionage <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

yep, CoAS soley ru is a retextured AOP Man o war, i have to say this Mow model is poor and ugly,so is the soley ru texture.i dont know akella made this model according to what ship exactly, but i haven't seen any ship had this strange hull design of 17-18 centry.it was probably a design which ignored historical facts.

thanks for the info.

her fate is not good indeed, badly damaged in battle and burned later by a fireship.

AWESOME!

Amazing work mate, can't wait to see her out on the water fully ready for action.

One comment though, for such a large and heavy ship, shouldn't see be slightly lower in the water? If it came down to where you barely saw any of the white it would make the ship look much better and elegant in the water, and less tall/top heavy.
Keep it up!
