One of my older projects, the Sphynx, is getting an update - well, more like a complete overhaul actually :p - by Wedori and Sisko, here are the most recent WIP pics (textures are placeholders) :

High-res sculpts by Sisko for baking
    [IMG]

    Vastly improved geometry by Wedori:

And here some very old pics of the ship for comparison:

    C&C more than welcome!

I think my jaw just dropped when I saw Sisko's sculpting. I know it will be baked to a low-poly mesh, but OMG! :shock
Loving all the little details Wedori has added too. Hats off to the both of them. :doff

Not a fan of that deck texture, though. Looks really quite dirty to me, even for a placeholder.

She is beautiful! :) an amazing amount of detail on both the bow and stern! looks like she is quite an impressive little ship. the one thing I don't like is some of the textures, but as you said, they are only placeholders. excellent work by all involved! Can't wait to see more.

    Thanks for the comments :)

That´s been my reaction, too :p Can´t wait to see his version of the figurehead.

And no worries about the colour of the placeholders, as soon as I´ve unwrapped my Belle Poule (prolly next weekend), I´ll try to make a set of accurate and seamless textures for both ships with the Marshall painting as base for the colour scheme and the Götheborg replica for the planking/wooden parts.

@Bava take a look at cgtextures. Were members there and can take full resolution.

Edit: Oh and please remember: In Maya the textures looks other then ingame ;)

Keep in mind that men of war would have had brighter deck planing than modern replicas. Ships' decks these days usually aren't well-cared for, and they start to to discolor quickly. The plank texture Armada used on Rossiya is derived directly from pictures of Pilgrim's deck, which had been redone two weeks prior. That might suit your purposes well.

Me too. I'm actually procrastinating at the moment. Good luck with whatever you have going on.

Sisko´s really getting good at this stuff. But we´ll probably need a 14+ rating for the ship :D:

You might even say he's too good at it. There will be many salty sea dogs blushing at the sight of his work (or at least making an unusually frequent use of a spyglass :keith).
There are so many ships with similar decorations too, but because they're only statues, I don't think there would be any problems.

The sailors will certainly spend more time skylarking in the head rig. :cheeky

OK, last update is 8 months ago :wp . 2,5 months offline after a cars accident paused the creation process but now all is fine and I work forward. Ive finished the interior and many new scratch parts that replace Bavas original ones. The more I work inside the Sphynx the more it was need to scale polygones up and make initial changes to existing mesh.
    Next steps are:
    1. Finish the upper deck details and kitchen
    2. Finish small details
    3. Rig and Sails

    Here some screenshots:
(Note: The "look" of the textures are ingame much other because specular-, bumpmaps, and parallax occlusion mapping is set)

it looks simply awesome. Can't describe it any way else. The progress from Storm Engine to UDK is finally starting for my feeling. Those ships are so extremely nice it's almost to good to be true.

That looks astonishing! An almost obsessive amount of detail on display there. :keith

We ought to do something about that dark deck texture, though. Try this one I've just uploaded: http://piratesahoy.bowengames.com/HeartsOfOak/ShipParts&Textures/Textures/WoodDeckNew.png
It's based on photo reference provided by Post Captain, and I've upscaled it and merged some detail from a higher-resolution image.

Also looks as though the normals on the black railings need to be hardened a bit, but otherwise it's brilliant work.

Oh, thanks for the deck-texture, Ill setup today to the modell. And the color is the right one for the vessels of this time? I orient a bit in movies :wp

The normals (all) I will check when the vessel swims in CryEngine because sometimes its an absolutely other result when specular and bumb / gamelight give the texture and the parts an other look. The black rails are a special thing on this. Ingame screenshots Ill post soon, when the details at deck are finished (before sails, rig and masts comes).

Oh thanks. The rest paintscheme looks ok so far but I see and remember the missing figures. Sisko is still working on it (very... very expensive work and :ninja I hate to create figures). :wp

So, update. Finished the steering wheel. Created from pictures and a blueprint. Update to parts-database next days.
