Quest_frigate_captain captaining Volcano (Battleship1) - CHARACTER NOT USED???
Vigila Mendes captaining Juno (Caravel1) - Trader to be escorted from Grenada

Does anyone have any thoughts about any of the above? What custom new ship models do we have that would be correct for The Golden Age of Piracy (1680 - 1739) and we should therefore try to put to use?

I've updated the above post with notes on where each ship is used, as far as I could figure out. Of course I haven't played the storyline in forever, so I could use some help from anyone who has.
For example, isn't there a ship you're supposed to sink to get the idol for Silehard? Which ship is that?

And a question for the historically inclined: should British and French ships in the Standard storyline use their black-and yellow or black-and-red colour schemes or should they not?

About the silver train quest we need to change the fleut1 by a spanish treasure galleon and the change must be also done in the Bartolomeu main quest. :yes

The Athena is the frigate with the idol. Harold Barret is her Captain.

The Albion stands out as being too small to transport a detachment of soldiers. Perhaps something bigger, but still fast would be preferred.

Malcolm Hatcher captaining Margaret Hatcher (PiratBrig50) - where is HIS ship used???
When user sets a Tartane-class ship in "New horizons" storyline, it will turn out that Hawk was only a Hatcher's first officer. Hatcher proposes to give Hawk a recently captured tartane, then our unhappy "alter ego" humbles "...I was hoping to take control of brig ''Margaret Hatcher'). Also, a tutorial is supposed to be run on board of this ship.

We're in 1690, late XVIIIth century color schemes such as the black and red for the french would be quite anachronic, it would ruin the immersion feeling...

We should use the royal french scheme and limit the part of yellow and black for the british ships, but that's only my point of view

Ah, I remember that now you mention it! Of course it is no longer possible to select your own ship, so this ends up never happening. :(

Thanks a lot; I updated the above list accordingly. :doff

Good point! Definitely needs swapping out.

That's what I suspected. At the moment, two out of three ships in the squadron blockading Barbados DO use the black-and-red colour scheme, so we need to swap those out for sure.

Apostol Felipe?
Yes, it could be a good solution. :yes
That one's done! Should make for quite a nice sight when people play that sidequest now! :woot

That's why I repainted FR_SuperiorWarship1, I was fed up to see that red and black scheme in 1690, we shoud find a variant for the two other ships in the blockade squadron

In fact, we should just push that color scheme out of the periods situated before 1740, or better, it should begin to appear with the Aubrey/Hornblower periods... well, as long as the french monarchy is out there... But we might not have enough ships for that

I've a bit more finished version of Select Storyline interface, so this happens again. The only thing I must add is starting location and starting date selection.

Would be nice to have some more French royalist ships. At the moment, I imagine the following French ships would be available for this storyline:
FR_Boussole
FR_Couronne
FR_Derfflinger
FR_Fleuron
FR_Hoy
FR_Licorne
FR_SoleilRoyal
and maybe
FR_WarGalleon

Which of those would work for the blockading squadron? Of course we can always use some of the generic ship skins and put, for example, battleship1 back in there.
The colours of the FR_Belette do look somewhat odd to me; I prefer the clean royal look of the Boussole and La Licorne.

Even that sounds already brilliant! Do you think you could finish that? Or upload your current files for that? That'd be brilliant to be able to re-introduce for Beta 2! :woot
I once tried your latest update, but I couldn't start a new game with it, so couldn't do much with it. :facepalm

When do you plan to release Beta 2? I could upload a current version tomorrow or even today, but it surely isn't compatible with any recent modpack. Additionally, I'm trying to improve SE and have a real life, so I won't have time to merge anything. The only option which is left is to 'upload it as is'.

pirate_kk

I'd want to release Beta 2 before the end of the year. If your current game version runs at all, it should be fairly doable to extract only the Select Storyline interface, right?
Especially if you tell me which files are the main ones. If you can upload it, I'll see what I can do. :woot

Definitely not La Couronne, she's outdated by this time period. The others should be fine, though. :onya
However, I'm starting to doubt the Boussole's role in this storyline. She's a late 18th century frigate dressed up as a late 17th century frigate. She's too modern by design for 1690.
We might need to modify something like the Corvette model to use a similar paint scheme to La Boussole. If I recall correctly, the stock game actually used a Corvette for that role, anyway.

Couronne outdated already? That's quick! Too bad.

Can't we get away with using the Boussole? She's only used as player ship for one short run and not seen again afterwards.
Otherwise we're just going to have the non-nation-specific ship models. Which is possible as well, of course. But I'd still like to use as many nation-specific ones as we might be able to pull off....

According to Wikipedia, La Couronne was commisioned in 1636, and decommissioned in 1645 to be scrapped. So she certainly didn't last until 1690. :shrug

You'll have history buffs knocking on your door with pitchforks and torches, mate. :urgh
But if you don't mind that, then sure, we can keep her as she is.

We could always repaint her and use her in the Hornblower quest instead, if we still want her put to good use...

9 years only? That's a rather short lifespan, isn't it? If we have to fit exactly within those years, she'll hardly get any use at all.
We'd have to be at least a bit flexible to be able to use her either in Golden Age of Piracy or in The Spanish Main.

Nobody has complained so far. Haven't even seen much complaints about the red-and-black Barbados blockading squadron, which seems to me a worse anachronism. :shock
I like her current paint scheme and would find it rather unfortunate if she'd see no use as-is at all. :(

Just two quick questions.

Why is the Athena painted black and red? She is a British frigate.

What ship is going to replace battleship3 in the Bridgetown Assault Squadron?
