as i said, shes got less poly's than the first low-end release we got, but more detailed cannons. turns out i found an excessive amount of polies on the gun mounts the cannons too. i took and replaced all the guns with a retextured version of the boarding scene guns. for a while i was thinking of leaving in the restraining tackle in but they kind of added an excessive amount of polies, however, once i fix the last problem(id be obliged if somone could tell me how to fix it, see earlier post) i plan on making a more detailed version and perhaps then put the restraining tackle in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Notice how the lighting hits reversed, the bottom of the hull lighted up but the top is dark.

Strange. It doesn't look all that wrong on the screenshots. I'd have to see it ingame or in a movie or something... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Are you sure the other ships don't have this problem? Maybe somebody can help you to convert your model the way the original Surprise was converted as well?
 
I think you have to flip the normals.that should have the lighting show up right .As for my cannons being so dam poly heavy.I think when I converted the model to gm it did some weird thing and tripled all the faces some how.I just noticed this a few weeks ago while on deck and i was looking at the cannon and it looked like there where polys floating above it.closer look and the was!! I was so pissed.And I recall theres a bug in the gm converter that you have to keep the model 1 sided in maya or that will happen..
 
If you flip the normals, the entire ship will be looking as if she was turned inside out. I thought that might be the problem but, judging by the screenshot, the normals don't need to be flipped.
Maybe the X-Form needs to be reset? When I did modelling for Virtual Sailor, sometimes my model got messed up and I had to reset the X-Form in 3DS MAX. That was pretty weird as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I don't know if that makes a difference. X-Form migth also influence other fileformats. The X-Form was stored in the original .max file when I did VS modeling.

those are Inzane's masts, im just refitting the guns and gunports on the ship


Grrrr flipping the normals in milkshape dosent seem to work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
Maybe you could try sending the file to me and I'll try and mess aorund with it for a bit using Deep Exploration. Maybe converting from vrml to 3ds and back will do some good? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

It's not a bug but a normal operation.
All models made for games should only be 1 sided.
Why?Because 2 sided actually means doubling the number of polygons.
Why?Because rendering engines only render poly(+ special effects as pixel shader,etc...) so to be able to render 2 sided objects the model is actually doubled.

For you info it is my model,I built it from scratch.Merciless Mark is modding it with lower poly cannons.
 
First off Lilith do you have any Idea what or how the gm converter plugin works??If it was so easy to get ships into the game there would be millions by now. Maybe to make a sword of a gun or static mesh.not when it comes to getting a 100% working ship in game .The plugin is tempermental.poorly designed and extremely vauge in why it boots a mesh out of the conversion processes,when that happens it can be a million things.or 1 small one.And you wont know what it is.Thats why all the shipmakers gave up and quit.I am the only 1 who got a fully rigged, armed ship not boat ingame and released. Basicly your comment insulted me .in not so many words telling me I dont know what I am doing.I pointed out a fact to anyone starting up NOW to make sure doublesided is off.Simple ,No you come in and act like you know it all.Like you got 30 ships into POTC.careful how you direct your comments.this goes for all others who have not gotten a ship into POTC.And its a small small list.
 
Just the internet???Guess what that was the last ship I will ever make for POTC.
