The bug with Tenochitlan has been fixed by the game community and as far as I know, pretty much everything works now.

But yes, if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person, or don't meet them when they ask you to, it can 'break' a quest.

Where is the fix for that quest? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

A temporary fix for those with problems on the Tenochtitlan quest (getting a guy with empty dialog):

Please note this is not official in any way, and I can take no responsibility if this solution messes up your save game, or otherwise hurts the game. Do this at your own risk, and please backup your save.

First of all, make sure Age of Pirates is closed (don't do this while the game is running)

Backup the files in the following folders so you can revert back to them if necessary:
(Age of Pirates Base Directory)\Program\DIALOGS\russian\Quest\Tenochtitlan
(Age of Pirates Base Directory)\Program\Text\Dialogs\Quest\Tenochtitlan

There should be 3 files in each of those directories, for 6 files in total.

Edit all 6 of those files in a text editor (such as WordPad).
You'll need to replace all instances of the word "DLG_TEXT" with "DLG_TEXT_TE" (WITHOUT quotes) in all 6 files.

To do that in WordPad for instance:
1. Open one of the files.
2. Click Edit, then click Replace.
3. In the "Find what:" box, type in DLG_TEXT
4. In the "Replace With:" box, type in DLG_TEXT_TE
5. Click the "Replace All" button.
6. Save.
7. Repeat on the remaining 5 files.

Now try to talk to the man who had a blank dialog box again.

This is the Fix for the Tenochitlan quest bug where you get the dude that runs up to you with an empty dialog file.

I did not figure this out and can't remember who originally posted it, but thanks to that original poster!

Not sure if this works but I'll try it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

According to everyone that has made this modification says the this fixes all the troubles.

Cap'n Drow

That looks like something that might have to go into a sticky/unofficial patch. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

...and with this you have de quick "GoTo" menu (go to tavern, go to store...) even on CoAS quest... fast land travels in the maze of wrecked ships. Good for time saving... bad for exploring at the beginning of that quest, that finding new paths was important.

<b>BEST REGARDS</b>

Well, if the original quest should have had the quick travel locked out for awhile, we will eventually just have to go back diving into the code and get that stuff fixed even further, at least with this fix the dialogs are not empty and you don't get stuck and unable to proceed in the quests.

No problem, Cap'n Ty! Happy to have been helpful!

Pinned to keep it at the top of the list!

Does this bug happen for everybody? meaning I might as well just apply this "patch" now. even though I haven't gotten that far yet?

I was wondering the same. But for now I decided to just go ahead and do it as it seems a prudent step to take.

Thank you for this fix.
I have another problem, along with others...after done talking to the spanish survivor...meet Montezuma...remove the fire spell...cross the dam...and when entering Tenochtitlan, a skinny indian pops up and...surprise, he has an empty dialog box and of course as a present : a desktop crash :shrug !

I already tried to reverse the changes made by this fix after talking to Montezuma, but it has no effect whatsoever! At this moment I am stuck with this quest.

I would appreciate your help! :gday

For anyone having my problem here is how it can be fixed...originally posted by jills on anoter forum :

"im very happy you know. yesterday manage to bypass the blank dialog box at the tenochtitlan temple indian, i think his name is mexitli or something like that so i could continue the mission and now i have defeted the god and got the jade skull.

Go to tenochtitlan and save your game at the bridge, then go into the city. you cant avoid the encounter with the mexitli guy so when he comes to you and you get the blank dialog box just press F6 so the game will be fast saved at that point, wait a few seconds and try to move, game crashes, but now you have a new saved game.

when you load the new game you will be able to continue the mission and the mexitli guy wont bother any more. also there is another guy in there, dont try to talk to them or you will get the blank boxes. anyway, at least for the tenochtitlan quest it seems that you dont need that info, but i dont know if its necessary for other quests or if they give hint to some treasure or something"

is there anything you have to do before you talk to the spanish survivor lev. or quest? because the spanish survivor stil have a empty dialog box in my game after i have applyed the fix

Edit: got it to work by deleting my profil and savegames and start a new game.

Capt'n Drow:

I am running COAS stock on a new HP Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC. It has a Pentium Dual-core CPU T4200 @ 2.00 GHz with a 64 bit Windows Vista Home Premium operating system and 4.00 GB ram. The Windows Experience Index is 3.8. I have had only minor glitches with COAS till now. I have a Mosquito Coast treasure map, and hit the above bug with the blank dialog box.

I tried using Wordpad to change the necessary files to fix the bug, but Wordpad can't save the changes. Have not been able to get around this bug. I have a free Windows 7 upgrade, but do not want to install it till I get this bug fixed.

Need help!

Edit the file outside of PROGRAM FILES and then move the changed file back into the game files and allow to overwrite, if this doesnt work then you will have to install the game outside of the PROGRAM FILES

i did all u told to do.....renamed all things.....but , blank dialogue and crash , crash , crash :((((( does it matter i have 1.3 version ???

could u post a link to some mod that could fix this bug ????
