the best pirate game

woopypooky

Master Mariner
which one is the best? can anyone compare and describe for me?
pirates of the caribean, sid meier pirates, port royal 2,and age of pirates and possibly some others?
i played sid meier pirates and it was very very good especially the naval battle part, but i juz hate the dancing thingy.
So i wanna try a new game

I don't have all those games you talk about. I just own PotC, Pirates Gold, Port Royal 1, Age of Sail and Age of Sail: Privateers Bounty.

Age of Pirates isn't released up to now, PR2 imo is very simular to PR1 and SM Pirates to Pirates Gold (but you don't have the dancing).

They all have good and bad points and which is the best for you belongs to your preferances.

imo the best Naval battles are in AOS2 and AOS:pB, if you prefer sailing online against others. But these games are old and still have many bugs.
You can play with 4(pb) or `8-10`(AOS2) players online. For pb there is a 16th century mod available. Big Battles like trafalgar are just running single player. But it is no real Pirate Game, more a naval simulation.

Port Royal has a very strong trading part. I heard that the Battles in PR2 are not that fun, cause you just control one ship and sometimes against 4 enermies (PR1 allowed you to sail more ships in battle).

PotC is an RPG with no Online play. There is a fine Mod availible here on PA, which brings new ships and some new adventures. A good system for naval battles, but you just control one ship directly in battle, cause you don't have a god view camera, like all others (first or third person view)

Pirates i would describe as a bit of everything. it contains elements of RPG like dancing and fencing. You have a little trading part and small naval battles. So a good mix of all, but not the most detailed in any of them.

Age of Pirates is a game in development based on Sea Dogs and PotC, but shall have multiplayer with up to 16 players online. we have to wait for more specifications.

Pirates of the Burning sea is an upcoming MMORPG. It shall be realeased sometimes this year.

There are more Games and some Mods (for mist, BF42 and others) which are in development or already released, but i don't have specific information about them.

oooohhh..thanks a lot,
i wonder which games give naval battles nd ship management in the upmost detail?
example like various ways of naval battle and u can modify how ur ship looks like

I think Age of Sail is probably best for shipboard management. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

AOS2 and PB are both scenario based games. Ships and thier position on the sea are build in already. No way to change on the fly.

So the management of ships are complicated. You have to make new scens to bring in new ships. this can by done with the build in editor for pb. Aos2 don't have this editor (imo AOS2 was also published before ready. there should be an editor in it, but they take it out), so it has to be done with extra programs.

I hope for the MP part of AOP to get a game, that gives you the possibilities to modify ship (name, guns, crew) a bit and fight some good battles. And hopefully it will base on Maps (like BF42) and not on Scenarios.
We made hundreds of Scenarions for AOS2 and PB at SeaLords, but it's still hard to find a proper one, espacially during a war.

I think modifying the look of a ship will be more a job for modders. You can implement some different skins for each model, but a free change of the textures in game will be impossible to realize.

So up to now, i don't know a game, that really fits to your wishes.

If you're looking for a true "pirate game" and can be modest about graphical demans, go for Cutthroats. (It won't run under XPSP2.)

For a fine balance between gameplay and graphics, get the original Sea Dogs. Play it with the mods. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

If you're into cartoons and comics, then SMP is the way to go. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

i am looking for a pirate game that consist of 3/5 cds and excellent in everything.
Excellent 3D graphics that require `high-end` graphic cards to play, more than 100 quest and adventure on land and seas, lots of cutscene, detailed variety of ships for me to toogle, advance AI for my crews and opponents, fight storms at the sea, advance tactical and slower naval battles, lots of item for my character inventory,
being able to choose which quest to deal with first without needing to follow the game plot.
Having lots of quest is important so i can play longer rather than finish a few quest and get bored due to repetitiveness juz like the sid meier pirates! game.

Heh, if you find it, let us know! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Of course, we could all get together and make it ourselves... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Making a game is not that far away from Modding.

There are free or really cheap to buy `3D-Engines` on the web and the rest is imo not that far from what some did in their mods.

At the `Sealords-Forum` we already thought about this idea, but we don't have enough potential in programming and Computer Arts to do it up to now. We just collect some ideas for a Naval Game. We wanted to use the Torque Engine, which is provided by Garagegames for just 100$ and i think, it was already used for the Games Tribes and Tribes 2. It allows up to 128 Players online (theoretically) and the Engine already brings a lot of Grafic Features.

So mayby an Idea, if Disney buys AOP and Akella fails again....

Heh, I highly doubt that Akella will fall prey to Disney/Bethsoft again... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> Once bitten, twice shy. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

But there is a lot of modding potential here and on other pirate gaming websites around the web - if we could get together and cooperate (perhaps all we need is a good coordinator) with one another, I think we could put together a killer game... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

We lack enough modelers here, at the moment. Oddly, when I started trying to learn this coding stuff there were a lot more modelers here and hardly any coders... Funny how that goes. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The best pirate game for me is Sea Dogs, cuz i've spent more time playing it than all other pirate games i know put together(and even PotC with all the builds <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ). SD has simply a gameplay that can't be recreated. The way you get ships, control them, story, IT'S THE BEST!!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

After all the information I've read about Sea Dogs, I finally bought a copy from Amazon (US$<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />. I've just started playing it, and I'm impressed with the richness of it! I now fully understand the injustice Disney committed with PotC. Bring on the Age of Pirates!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Aye mates,SeaDogs cannot be beat fer gameplay wid HoseHeads addon, thar simply to much to do ye can't possibly get bored,so it will be very interest'n te see what PMT does for POTC Expansion Mod,I'd be think'n it will be awsome, not take'n anything away from builds as it is a vast improvement over stock version <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Sea Dogs IS a great game. And the mods made by Hosehead and all add incredible gameplay to a terrific game. PotC in retrospect was quite disappointing - but for me, fun to mod because I suppose I learned to mod it by making some ship skins, and then bringing a SD character (Maurikio) over to PotC for Fred Bob. That turned into my "Fred Bob Quest", <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> and the beginning of a hobby (mental illness! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ) that has been both absorbing and frustrating. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

MY hat is off <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> to anyone who mods any games like this. I just wish I knew more about the code. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> Ah well, that will come. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Akella's Age of Pirates should be awsome indeed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

SirChristopherMings had a "Masterpiece Emoticon Theater" topic in the Burning Brig for a time, very funny stuff! Here's a link:
