The Black Pearl 2.1

Kazeite

Privateer
Storm Modder
Yup, I've updated the <i>Black Pearl</i> yet again. Blame Russians - they got me worked up with their innacurate main cabin <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yup, I made my own version of the main cabin. And transparent windows.

<img src="http://kazeite.republika.pl/PotC/windows.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

However... I cannot get her to work correctly in the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Observe:

<img src="http://kazeite.republika.pl/PotC/problem.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

See those circled areas? Apparently after conversion something causes the game to think that ripples in the water created by ships hull should be placed like that. Right ripple is in correct place, but left is way to the port side, with central ripple placed accordingly. However, the collision data for hull itself is still correct - that is, it's not as wide as those ripples would suggest.

Such error is unnaceptable for me. I can ignore lightning but, but not something like that. Therefore, I'm going to ask the Russian team for help. They obviously have capability to create fully working ships for PotC, so, they should be able to fix this error.

To improve your mood, here's screenshot I made using BP 2.0a:

<img src="http://kazeite.republika.pl/PotC/storm.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> try making a storm-shot that's a bit better visible, if you want to. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i certainly like the angle and distance in this one, though.

Are there any loose and free-floating invisible polygons or vertexes in the model or something? That might explain the weirdness. In any case: Contacting the Russians would be a great idea. I hope they'll be able to help! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Loose vertexes in <b>my</b> ship!? You wound me, sir, with your accusation! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Seriously, though, I very much doubt that is the case, but I'll look into it. Properly exported ship wouldn't hurt anyway, though... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

As it turns out, there's yet another man who might be able to help me - the goes under the nick of <b>Clutch Marauder</b>, and as I understand it, he's the veteran modder for <i>Sea Dogs</i> and <i>PotC</i>. Lately he's been making ships for <i>Pirates of the Burning Seas</i>, but apparently he still uses <i>PotC</i> character models to judge scale, and <i>PotC</i> itself to see how they look "ingame", so to speak, ergo, he still must have the capability to export his ship into GM format (I actually recognized untextured Blaze he's using - I've definitely been modding PotC too much <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

I'm kinda hesitant to ask him, though, disturbing him with such insignificant problem... If the Russians doesn't respond, I might be forced to do that anyway (kinda weird - it seems that besides Akella there are only two people in the entire universe capable of properly exporting ship into <i>PotC</i>...)

Of course I wasn't suggesting that you deliberately or accidentally put loose vertexes in there. I know you to be too good a modeler for that. But 3D programs can do weird things on their own without outside involvement. I saw similar things happen when I still modeled for Virtual Sailor. I thought I'd mention it, even though I'm 99% sure it is not the case. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

clutch? where is he? i need to inform the LIB of that. they're wondering where he's gone for quite a while now. i think he can't get on the site anymore due to the changed forum adress.

I know, I was only joking, Pieter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Sorry for conveing my mock astonishment so convincing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

He posts at the <a href="http://www.flyinglabs.com/forums/showpost.php?p=406634&postcount=119" target="_blank">PotBs forums</a> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

thanks. the LIB will certainly be pleased about this. i'll inform them immediatly.

Now why does it sound so ominous? "The Emperor will be pleased..." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Anyway, <b>Revolucionario</b> has reminded me that I had something else prepared: ships icon:
<img src="http://johnnybee.boo.pl/silhouette.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Of course, this is a simple .jpg, but I have .tga with transparency map ready. If the <i>Pearl</i> already has its own icon prepared, just tell me which file it is and I'll append it appriopately and upload the file. If not... well, prepare place for one! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

oh blast. turns out he was active only 9 days ago. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> didn't even notice!

The file with the Black Pearl icon for Battle Interface is the first one in the upper-left corner of file RESOURCE\Textures\BATTLE_INTERFACE\ships_32.tga.tx.

pirate_kk

Oh. I've forgotten about this one as well <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Thanks for the remainder, <b>pirate_kk</b>. I was thinking about big ship icons, the ones from <i>RESOURCE\Textures\INTERFACES\</i>. I see that <i>ship-1.tga.tx</i> does have stock <i>Black Pearl</i> in it, along with the <i>Fearless</i> (which makes it likely that the third ship was meant to be <i>Interceptor</i>-like ship <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) So, I'm guessing that I should replace this icon as well, right?

an idea is simple..

We take ship in Max, design cabins in necessary places, holds but low poligonal (we remember that it is better not to climb higher 15-20 thousands), convert back(most difficult).

Farther we do texture.. In her alpha do windows a channel. And for us beautiful ship!
<a href="http://img525.imageshack.us/my.php?image=frigate2la4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5679/fr...a4.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Yet idea which we are simple long to do.
Does a pats file with outputs on masts(on shrouds). All works! And a kind is excellent..

Simple Idea:

Take a ship in 3DSMAX, design the cabins and holds in necessary places but maintain a low poly count. (Remember that it is better to not have it higher than 15-20 thousand polies) then convert it back into the engine (very difficult).

Then further the texture is done in an Alpha channel for the windows (so that you can see through them). It works and is excellent. Does the Pat File deal with outputs on Masts(on shrouds)?

END TRANSLATION..

Did I hit the target? Flint.? I noticed your English isn't that accurate. But I understood (I think).

Um... your cannons are sticking out from the deck. That's bad. It means the floor of your cabin should be lower and those two rearmost cannons should be actually visible in cabin itself.

EDIT: Like I said on the russian forum, if you could told me how you esport your ships from 3Dsmax, I... well, we would be very grateful <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

ModelView, export to OBj format... 3d max open OBJ model! And modeling.

Convert in GM in Tool or maya 5.0 (<a href="http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/May5.0.zip" target="_blank">download Maya 5.0</a>; <a href="http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/plagin5.0.zip" target="_blank">download plagin</a> )

Hmm you've probably got bigger things to worry about but the <i>Black Pearl</i> Has no cannons on the bow or stern. I was watching the audio commentaries on pirates 2 and apparently that was supposed to be its weakness, it can run away and pursue fast but it cant shoot you while doing so.

Hmm I think I better apologise. I've been back 2 days and I'm already finding fault in stuff. I'll find myself something constructive to do, <i>someday</i>.

The bow and stern chasers were added deliberately to the PotC model, because all ships in PotC have them. Which is strange, because I don't think they were that common in real life at all.

Yup, like Pieter said, I've added them deliberately, because in the game, every damn ship and its uncle has them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But, by all means, do try to find faults in me <i>Pearl</i>y - the more perfect I can make her, the better <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
