Just a quick one for those of you that know more about it.

Is it actually supposed to be in english as well? As there is almost no advertising for it and it's que Q1?

<i>Pieter Boelen:</i>
It's already released in Russia. City of Abandoned Ships is the English version of the game to be released to the Western world.

<i>Peter Willemoes:</i>
Yeah I think its called "Corsairs:Return of the Legend" or something in Russian.

Until recently, we did´nt even know such a game existed, until that guy from Seaward.ru, Edward Zaitsev, mentioned it in a mail. It showed up on Akellas website, completely with 8 blurry screenshots and then most gamingsites appearently was send the standard package from Russia(with love): the text from the gamedescription and the 8 screens - no further comments. RPGVailt suddenly appeared with an exclusive i-view with an actual geek from Seaward.ru, that was in the neighbourghood and some fresh screens and in-depth details on the game.
On that basis, we concluded the game to be interesting enough for a (possible) future modding-platform, that is IF we think the game is not a "blooper" (like AoP was )

<i>Pieter Boelen:</i>
If the game IS a blooper, then cooperating with seaward.ru and Akella could STILL be most useful.

<i>Old Salt:</i>
The screenshots from that game are amazing though.

<i>Officerpuppy:</i>
Another AOP flop would be a hearthache, in the sense that we would have to wait for yet another game to capture the spirt that POTC has and is still enduring.

Extract from interview with Yury Rohach on <a href="http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/841/841808p1.html" target="_blank">RPGVault</a>:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->[...] While playing on land, the gamer can face various characters, from bandits and pirates to soldiers and municipal police. Sometimes, he'll even fight entire garrisons or military troops. A separate group of enemies includes the likes of Aztec warriors, living skeletons and, sometimes, <b>gigantic crabs</b>. [...]<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'd like to express my gratitude to desiners. Fighting the crabs with a bare sword was always my fantasy; I had obsession on that point and never really dreamt about anything else! Only that one feature forces me to play that wonderfull game!

What the hell! That's not a thing they claim, that's crap2!

"Living skeletons" we already have in PotC, so that's nothing innovative.

<i>Pieter Boelen:</i>
LOL. They probably want to cater to the same audience that likes the PotC films, so they added some supernatural stuff. Personally I don't really mind that, as long as it's not over the top. Actually, the fact that they added some supernatural stuff means that IF we port our content to their game, the film-related stuff wouldn't be out of place. However, I do think that whatever game we work on should be fun for both people who do and don't like the fantasy elements. That's why I like to keep the fantasy stuff quest-only so that people who want to have a realistic game can just choose not to play that quest and not have to endure that weirdness. I don't know how they handled that in CoAS, but I can't believe that you'll be fighting crabs every couple of minutes; they'd probably be pretty rare.

<i>Morgan Terror:</i>
i wouldn't mind gigantic crabs that much. bit wierd, but could be fun to fight something monstrous once in a while.

<i>Officerpuppy:</i>
Feed a whole Frigate crew on one crab <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

There's an idea, use the giant crabs as a food source, send out a few men on a island to hunt a crab to bring back to the ship, lasts for a month.

<a href="http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217784" target="_blank">http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217784</a> (206 SCREENSHOTS on this site) It seems the game even has animations for holding crates and sacks. Sailors are carrying cargo. This game looks really good.

<i>Officerpuppy:</i>
Those are really great screen shots, I've only seen a couple so far but there is what looks like a ship grave yard and a Pre-Columbian temple, looks awesome.

<i>Morgan Terror:</i>
the graveyard looks great, just like all land locations. it's just that i still think that all the regular ships are a bit too boxy.

<i>Pieter Boelen:</i>
Cool stuff I see in the screenshots:
- Land visible in the boarding scene
- Boarding party walking over the railing onto the enemy deck, captain in the lead
- Working character carrying stuff
- I think a see an actual PotC character model, the one originally used by Isenbrandt Jurcksen
- Worldmap ship models look much better than stock PotC or AoP
- Cool view from balcony
- Soldiers look like soldiers (unlike AoP)
- Ship graveyard = LOL!
- Game doesn't look as Japanese-animation-like (read: cartooney) as AoP

I'm definitly interested. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<i>Merciless Mark:</i>
Well im quite interested as well. Just saw a screenshot showing the HMS Mordaunt <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

<i>Pieter Boelen:</i>
I saw some more interesting stuff:
- AoP cabin location (one of those we... borrowed... as well)
- Proper holding of musket by crewmember in boarding screne
- PotC researcher model being used
- Incan location is HUGE
- VERY cool Incan chief/priest character model
- The crabs are in the UNDERWATER SCENES! Makes sense.

<i>Old Salt:</i>
Again, impressive screenshots. <img src="http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x172/oldsalt_bucket/thumbsup.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> But we've seen this before like some have said. Can't get to excited yet. Better brush up on the Russian. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<i>ZarethPL:</i>
COAS and Return Of Legend are two diffrent games ,while coas is supposed to use storm 2.8 ,return of legend uses storm 2.5 like AOP but its less buggy and more stable <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

<i>KaiserWilhelm:</i>
I went to that site with 200-some screenshots, and do I see one where the character is in diving gear and is underwater?

<a href="http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217832" target="_blank">http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217832</a>

That would just be bizarre if that's what it proves to be...

[Edit] Here's one of the suit out of water, it looks like that's exactly what it is. Very intriguing. <a href="http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217829" target="_blank">http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/city_of_abandoned_ships/217829</a>

<i>Cylon13:</i>
Ahh! Good ..so CoAS has Underwater detail also? Niiice <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ..first thing what blew into my mind was SUBERGIBLE FLYING DUTCHMAN!
