To many problems !

Cyberops

Landlubber
Hello my friends,

I have spend all weekend into going trough the code, so far i have discovered so many problems in this game which is not even funny. Here is the problem.

What did they do ?

They took the main codes from Sea Dogs, Took a bit of codes from POTC and they added a bit of codes to it, trying to make them all work together while they where all made on a different version of the Engine. Which brings to the following problems they tried to upgrade the engine but not upgrade the codes properly. So if we really have to fix this game for all bugs to be out of the game or at least the biggest part of them then we also have to bring everything up to the correct version of the codes.

The Engine needs to be modified to handle the correct codes because right now it's not, i already updated the Engine in update 1 but that was only a small part that i updated to take a few bugs out.

Most modules are outdated, i already updated the Fmodex to the latest version from october 5th and yeah that is even a newer version then that u get with patch 1.42

Now i will keep putting some time into this game but to fix most of the bugs it's gonna be a while and as u all know we are also working on our own games and programs that also take a lot of time and we all have to spend some time with the wife and kids (Family) offcourse.

My thoughts about Akella at this moment ?

Well im actually ashamed that they released such a game, If u look at it then Sea Dogs is even better because it was a clean game, all problems started with POTC when they started adding codes on top of the old sea dogs and it became worse in AOPCT. So will people buy another pirate game from akella, sure some of them probably will because of the love they have for pirate games and i can't blame them but all im saying is don't let Akella and Playlogic get away with it that simple show your disliking of what they did, there is nothing wrong with speaking up and letting them know how u feel, at least that is what i do. I always was a loyal fan of their games but this time it really has gone to far, u get a so called patch and what does it do ? It brakes even more and adds more starforce crap, sure they add a few nice textures just to keep everyone a little bit happy but they only fixed 4 minor bugs i mean c'mon they can do better then that.

Sorry everyone but i just had to say it, it just brings pain looking trough all these codes and having to redo the most of them, it's not even an akella game anymore and not even AOP anymore when all the changeovers are complete it will feel like we have made a whole new game grrrr.

Anyways be a little patient on the bugs because im sure that u will discover a lot more, so far over the weekend i discovered around another 40 to 50 bugs that can be popping up simply because of wrong codes and being made for a wrong engine version. We will do the best we can in fixing them without bringing new bugs which has almost become impossible.

Thanks Cyberops, was wonder'n about that, saw some old code from SeaDogs, named Islands like Dead Ilsand, Isle DeOrange all Islands from SeaDogs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Cyberops,

So you have been decompiling the .exe and some of the .dll's? If so, what tool have you been using to do so. If you can let me know, I'll see about getting them myself and start doing everything I can to help out. I'm not a top dog coder, just a smart monkey that learns fast. Done lots of scripting, models and other stuff for Neverwinter Nights, Treadmards, Quake, Half-Life and many other games over the years.

Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for putting all this work into the game.

Ye've done quite right by us all so far, keep up the great work mate.

Tbh i don't belive in akella anymore, so far they proved how you should NOT make a game.

1. Its 2006 almost 2007, and you guys don't have atleast one dual core PC.

2. Who the hell uses shader model 1.1, 1.2, 1.3???

3. Storm Engine 2.5 should be named Bug Engine 1.3!

You have a point, but if you only pick at akella, why are you around this forum ravenheart? The most pirate games are from akella. Doesn `t matter though.

Im using my own toolset we use for development to, but there are a whole lot of decompiler tools out there if u find a good one share the link so everyone can join in on making this game better, or should i say we can all start working on making it an entirely new game.

actually, AoP does utilize Shader Model 3.0, not very much i grant you, but it does use it.

That is just plain sad. Code from three different games, all years apart from each other. Sea Dogs is ancient history; can't believe there is code from there in the game! I begin to get the impression that Akella doesn't give a damn about fans of their games. "I know, lets take the code from all our previous games and mix it together, slap it in a box and sell it to the dumb a$$ westerners; they'll buy anything."
I wonder if the games they make for Russian only consumption are that way? This is definitely eye-opening..
I was looking forward to Captain Blood, Swashbucklers, and Knights of the Sea, but I'm thinking they'll be every bit as unfinished and bug-ridden as AoP.
If I get them at all it'll be after they've been in the bargain bin for a good long while... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdown.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2dn" border="0" alt="thumbsdown.gif" />

Well im not buying games from them anymore, it's to cry. Like i said in the other thread it's easier to make a completely new game then fix all the bugs that are in this darn game. Im glad my Flight Simulator X game will be in tomorrow so i can relax with that and take my mind of things because it's a big pain in the behind this AOP - Caribean Bugs game.

Well, I think I've found a pretty nice decompiler. Now if I could only understand what the hell I'm looking at. **smiles** I'd really appreciate any input, suggestions or maybe even allowing me access to the tools or decompiled code you are working with, Cyberops.

Thats the link for the decompiler I found. Seems pretty interesting.

Lots of other interesting tools and toys at the following site as well.

Anyhow, anyone that wants to jump in and help out, please do. I can easily figure out the .ini files and fumble my way through a lot of the other stuff. But we REALLY need a good decompile of the .exe and something to do the same to the .dll files as well.

games are rarely made from the ground up so
old code from ancient games is to be expected.

OK, sure, but stuff like the islands from Sea Dogs? You won't see them in the game, so why put them on the disc at all? Bizarre...

In three years nobody ever managed to decompile any of PotC's moldules files or the engine.exe file. If Cyberops really has a tool to decompile these programs, let him please share it!

im using the developers tools that we also use to make our own games and the decompiler of it works great on AOP, POTC and a lot of other games.

That absolutely rocks, Cyberops. Especially since you and your team are the only folks around who have been able to decompile that stuff and actually figure out what is going on. We of the PotC and AOP communities NEED guys like you around to help us figure this stuff out. Especially since Playlogic, Bethsoft and Akella are apparently not really interested in getting these games truly up to snuff.

How does dat rock, Drow? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> He side-stepped de question! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I dont see me side stepping a question, the question was what decompiler we use and i answered that we use our own decompiler out of our own development tools. I dont see how i can answer that in a different way.

Think he was talk'n about the question Pieter asked, how about sharing that tool <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Okay, so ye be sayin' dat ye made yer OWN decompiler and ye do NOT use a 3rd party tool, matey! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Fred Bob ain't got no problem wid Akella reusin' code portions from previously published games! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> Why reinvent ye de wheel? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

As tew all de bugs, look what a shared effort in de modding community has done wid de PotC Build Mod! Fred Bob be thinkin' AoP prolly be havin' jus' as much potential fer good solid gameplay! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The question was if sharing that tools is possible? If not, what's the name of that program? Releasing it for community would dramatically help all of us improve both PotC and AoP - that's why acquiring staight answer is very important. The more people working to improve game means more and better improvement.
