War stories

heh. i do kamikaze-runs like they're nothing special. you know that. i take on battle fleets with a gunboat. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> takes HOURS.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

worst thing is, if i sink i can start the voyage between the islands all over again. so i have to win. or be really lucky and escape somehow.

Its <img src="http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/thumbnail2/512_jaw_dropper.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> You know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> A gunboat? Are you out of your mind? (no need to answer that, as I already know what your answer'll be <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> )

it's not too hard, actually. well, after a few pints, anyway. once you get one ship, the fun starts. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> problem is that if that landlubber gets it into his head to take a left turn you get either squashed or pulverized. there's always one crucial factor wether i go for it or not: the music. if the right music plays, there's no knowing what i'll do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> imagine the look on their face when i come at them with a gunboat and hoist the jolly roger! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

well i can tell ya one o' me stories ...it was long ago, very long ago .....i can't even remember what ship i had ...but i know i ran into a fleet of spaniards (i think they were spaniards <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> ) but anyway ......me ship was sunked i jumped into me last life boat with o' couple o' me lucky sailors ....and guess what this ol' captain thought of ....seein that i'm already a dead rat and all i charged at one of the battleships ...or was it a lineship ....anyway ... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> i captured her ......arrrrggghh it was a glorius moment ....capturing such a big battleship full o' sailors with only a life boat and a couple o' cutthroats <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> and after that big moment i sank the rest of the fleet <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> good thing the battleship didn't fired or i would have been sleeping with me pals the fishes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yep, that's right! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> You have to avoid sleeping-with-the-fishes thing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I still remember my first time playing the stock game - I went blank as I entered the world map after leaving Oxbay, and was attacked by a French squadron. I figured out the keys just in time to glide forward into Davy Jones' Locker <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Slept with a fish eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Bah! I just lost me chebec! I got run over by a Man O'War in a storm! That sucker hangin' in the air over my ship would have made a heck of a screenshot, but I forgot which key takes screenshots! Bah! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

F8... *LEER* <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

the bow of my frigate once got completely swamped in a storm. was kinda freaky seeing the water come all the way up to the deck. the whole rudder was out of the water at the same time! that was a monster wave! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> it happened several times after that too. the trick is to either ride along with the waves or straight against them.

I'll share a memory. I was sailing a frigate under the English flag and ran into a merchant fleet being escorted by a schooner and something else, I think a brig. I had the weather gage. There was a pinnace or two, a fleut I think, and some other ships that I can't remember (happened at least a year ago). Like a wolf, I simply sailed straight into the middle of everything with the wind behind me blasting broadsides all around. First one ship surrendered, then another. I made sure to slow down enough to damage the for'n'aft rigged vessels so they couldn't get away later. It was a great memory to see the power of a frigate doing what it was made to do. Destruction was dealt all about me; masts fell and white flags rose. I heavily damaged the second escort ship, but I can't remember if it got away or not. Then as I gradually proceeded through the merchant flotilla, I passed the bow of a pinnace, and there courageously sailed the schooner. Faithful to the end, the schooner sailed neck to neck with me. I had to have respect for the courage of the captain and crew. Dwarfed by the imposing frigate, the schooner tried to use its maneuverability and speed to advantage, but needless to say, it became my prize.

Of course after this, I had to tack upwind to get back to all my other prizes. Thanks to time compression, the wind eventually changed and I earned my keep.

I liked this instance because it fealt like I was Horatio Hornblower or Captain Peabody from C. S. Forester's novels. It seemed almost like a scene straight from one of his books.

i sometimes do that too, but you also get a slightly different situation once in a while:

i was sailing along in my manowar, when this dumbass englishman in a SLOOP fancies a scuffle with me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> he just kept doing evasive manuevers and fireing from all sides at me all the time, hardly causing a scratch, of course. i just plainly ignored him and sailed on, until he came next to me and i bowled him over with a broadside. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> it was like brushing off a fly.

Why did you even waste the ammunition - I'd have just run over him <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

for two reasons.

i was too lazy to give that steering wheel a whirl.

he was sailing off to my side already anyway.

What was that all about? Has that happened before?

you'd better ask that to the rather wet enemy captain. and of course it's happened before. i love to just trample over those little buggers. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

well i guess there was that storm i had a fleet of 4 ships in a storm that seemed to go on forever and to add the to it i was in a battle with the French and pirates(both enemies)they had about 3 ships each.every ship sank except me i jsut kept using quick repair and the other repairs to stay alive i survived and my ship had only a tiny bit of red and white on the sail and hull bar
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

and i also got lucky and took a Fluet with just a lugger near the begging but thats not so suprising with my skill <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/readon.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="readon.gif" /> lol
