WHAT THE?

Capitan

Landlubber
look at this that ship looks almost exactly like a POTC Lugger and the fort looks almost exactly like Fort Isla Muelle and the water is textured exactly like POTC water WHAT THE CRAP!?!?!

Does ye expect thar tew be that much difference visually 'tween AOP an' PotC, matey? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Yes - from the same company - with the same artists - and meant to be the TRUE successor to Sea Dogs - which PotC was supposed to be until Disney bought it out from under them and renamed it from Sea Dogs II to PotC... In Russia, Sea Dogs was called Corsairs, and PotC was supposed to be Corsairs II - Age of Pirates in Russia is called Corsairs III...

Yep, same settings, some of the same towns, more and improved content, different characters but presumably decendants of Nicholas Sharp, the original main character of SD...

It's a "sequel". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Again, nice to see the sagging lines, and that there're more of them.
And some actual `honest-to`-god jibs on that brig (though again they can't seem to make a _flying_ jib to save their lives...)
She looks to me more like the barque's or yacht's hull...

And--dare I believe my eyes?--it looks like they _finally_ fixed the reflection bug.
{In other shots of AOP it was still there, AFAICT}

The graphics have a similiar style but they seem to be more detailed. The ships seem to have a higher poly count and fine textures (this can be seen on other screenshots), also the land mass textures are better.
Anyone got a reasonable explanation for the strange lights in the sails? I really hope this crap will be removed from the game.

If you ask me that ship looks more like a Lineship from SD(well its smaller but still..). Any way AOP will be much better than PotC <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> (but never Sea Dogs!)

ehh capitan, you be a blind man! look better.. the water is NOT from POTC... it's the same water like in "Pirates of the Burning sea" & "captain blood".. in other words.. GAME ENGINE 2.5 or 3.0 .. they changed it... see the diffirance yourself :

this is the sea now -->
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.net/images/stories/akella/270305/AOPShot05.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

this was before -->
<img src="http://www.myhostingplan.net/piratesahoy/Akella/ageofpirates/screenshots/200305/8.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and now take a look @ pirates of the burning sea water <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> -->

<img src="http://www.burningsea.com/images/screenshots/thumb35.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

captain blood water -->

<img src="http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2004/screen0/920455_20040903_screen009.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

well not exactly of course.. I think more familiar with POTBS.. ohh well for me it is a huge improvement.. I never liked the water in POTC.. cuz of the color.. to blue :S.. and to "round" ..and now they fixed it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ..yeah <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

One big thing i can say...THEY DON'T USE `ANTI-ALISING`!(i may not spelled it right but it smooths the edges of the models). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

one thing i hope in AOP is the size of the ship compared to the fort should be adjuzted. in POTC, i thought the ship was bigger than the fort when u sail right next to it.
also the ships should be bigger and sailors walking on the deck should be smaller.If look properly in POTC, by comparing the size of the sailor on the deck and the whole ship itself i think the lineship can hold 50 ppl only instead of 600.

I like the look of the extra detail in the ships and sea in that top picture - hope the crew look better close up than they did in POTC. Although this might hit the processor a bit with higher poly models I would prefer to see more rounded models than the squareheads we now have on deck.

Ravenheart said <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->One big thing i can say...THEY DON'T USE `ANTI-ALISING`!(<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> but presumably we can still use the AA options on our graphics cards ?

As a player of AOS2, the crew will definitly have better grafics than there. In aos we have little blue men running on deck <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> .

Personally i don't need any crew at all. It is just a nice `eye-catcher`, with no effect for gaming. I would prefer an increased number of ships for each player and more players in `MP-Mode`. Surely you will also need opportunity for an `God-view` camera ,if you control more ships, which would bring an strategic component into the game....

If it's close enough to POTC's engine, turning on AA will bluescreen.

{On nvidia. Or at least it did for me and some others; haven't tried it since going from gf4 to 6800.}

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> ye got a 6800,drool,how de like it Nathan,compared te what ye had before <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Running POTC with an nvidia 5700 ultra here with 4xAA and 4xAF and it is very smooth and looks great

Well if the game is more optimized than PotC we won't have any problems <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" /> (running a GB Radeon9700Pro <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> and what do you know its from 2003 and there still ain't a game that won't run on max <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ).

Skull: It's from when CompUSA had that massive sale on PNY `non-ultras` (no other way I could've gotten one). Sadly the extra 4 pipes seem to be damaged rather than just locked...
But it's very nice, I must say. Was using a Gainward Ti 4200 before, and the difference is startling.
But sadly the 2D quality is noticeably worse than the GF4; I think it's probably just that PNY uses cheap components (which seems to be the 'net consensus, anyway...)

Rummy: so maybe it was my driver version? What version drivers (and whose if `non-stock`) are you using?

Running on Nvidia 53.03 drivers - quite stable for me on all games so far even though they are fairly old now.

I too am running MOD Build 12 on a TI4600 with 53.03 drivers and it looks great at 1600 x 1200. I have been very reluctant to use later drivers as they don't appear to like the older video cards.
