What's the play value now?

I keep asking questions like this and I might need to ask Jeff Foley at ATARI for a job. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

What is the current play value of POTC? The mod team has taken it from a p.o.s. into something worthwhile in my opinion, but what does the majority whom play it think? What does each of you enjoy in the game, and how much better is it now?

What is your favorite part of the enhanced POTC?

in all honesty i cant really remember the original unmodded potc its been so long since i have played it as such - i guess that is how much i like the mods in that i have never looked back. its difficult to say what is my fav part of the new potc, there are many sub catagories like individualism as in changing skins or changing character name.i think overall though is the fact that the game doesnt end, replayability is the biggest for me.

well istarted to play the umodded had to star a new game very three seconds so freaking buggy now its a most beautiful thing.

Well the first time i play in POTC(unmodded) it was soooooo lousy until then when i finish it i want the Manowar that's why i found this site then start downloading the mods, after that POTC is one of my favorite game now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

The unmoded game is not bad but you don't have many thing s especially the swords and you can't buy the mow . The builds make everything availble which offers us more choices and better game playing . In general , I like the seabattle in the hole game whether moded or not <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I like CCC's Coastraiders and Coasttraders mod from Build 11 - it gives you more ship traffic and better opportunities to have sea battles without going out of your way to stir them up.

And despite all my complaining, I have enjoyed making my Fred Bob side quest (which is coming out soon!). Having the opportunity to make new quests for the game is something I really enjoy.

I don't like to "alter" the game much - I tend to play with the "stock" Nathaniel character, tho sometimes I switch over to one of my `tailor-bought` outfits...

Having the difficulty levels to change is nice. I have TRULY enjoyed the challenge of playing the higher levels...

Sometimes I just enjoy walking around in a gentle rain in the game... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<mental note - remind Jeff to hire William... And ME!> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Ships,Ships,an more Ships,I luv retextured ships over de stock versions,The new interface screens new options,Har! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

In direct answer to the question, I would say play value is 10 on a one to ten scale. Best add ons from the builds.

1. Getting weaapons and cash from dead eenemies.

2. New baldes

3. Surrender mod

4. New ships

5. Turning on features and quests thaht disney turned off.

I hear what you are saying with regards to the half finished appearance of the game, along with the bugs I've read about, I didn't have any, and the poor planning of the main story line; you could stop yourself from finishing quests by finishing others, or you could find yourself painted into a corner with no way out thru no fault of your own and have to restart your game, i.e. Greenford fort,
but,
I still admire the graphics, and I like to think that the initial game inspired the modders to improve a game that got messed up due to a `tie-in` with a movie release.

It is just about a year ago that the original game was released and thanks to the Build(s) I still enjoy playing it and I am slowly working my way thru the newer additions in order to savor them one at a time. I figure the modders put a lot of time and effort into creating them, I am going to devote an equal amount of time to enjoying them.

The improvement I most enjoy is the falling masts that the modders put back into the game. I usually board ships because I like the swordfighting and then selling the captured ships, but more and more lately, I will devote my time to the sea battles, trying to manuver my ship with an eye to wind position, and take advantage of the different ammunition types, to outsail and ultimately disable an enemy ship. I enjoy very much knocking down the masts on opposing ships and I even enjoy when I lose a mast myself. I had a battle recently where all my masts were down, but I figured what the heck, I'll go down fighting. To my enjoyment I was still able to sink the ships that had `diss-masted` me and win the fight.

In short, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I feel you get out of the game, again with many thanks to the modders, what you put into the game.

Well, I wouldn't call the original POTC a p.o.s, but with the latest build, it sure makes the unmodded look like p.o.s. in comparison!

Check this out, a massive sea battle! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

All right, whomever you are, what have you done with Admiral 8Q? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

I warn you, if we're not assured that he is all right, you're going to have a lot of angry pirates coming after you, especially if you're some email con artist like the one mentioned in the thread that Black Pearl started. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />:

THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING, RETURN 8Q TO US IMMEDIATELY, IF NOT SOONER! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

(If it is you 8Q, dang, what are you doing with 3 galleons? Are they full of rum, or what?) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thanks for tha' concern Sir Mings, but I assure you it is I the one and only 8Q!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Funny that you should mention rum in the galleons because, well, in that screenshot I was on me way to smuggle lot's o' rum to the poor dry folks at Douwesen! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

About 8 or so pirates must 'ave 'eard that my fleet fat on rum was on the way and tried to intercept me! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Heh, the last galleon was captured in the battle <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Well that's a relief! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Well it should come as no surprise to you that I have got a nose for rum, especially when I take it in hand to get a nose full, and I can only commend you for the concern you show to the parched and dry colony on Douwesan.

You can always count on us mate, to stand to it when ye need us! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Try pouring the rum in yer mouth Mings, rather than yer nose! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

It's better that way, I swear! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

And yes, I try to relieve the tyrany of the poor Dutch people at Douwesen, I mean rum illegal? That's just wrong... but profitable! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Aye, it's a good way to build up some quick loot when ya needs it... And ye can always save a damsel or two to boost your rep if it takes a hit while yer smugglin... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Words to live by, my dear admiral, (or should I say, my rear admiral?) and since I've gotten this advice from both you and Skull, I will endeavor to follow it, frequently... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />:

Practice does indeed make perfect, and I am always striving for perfection.

By all means, do not forget the profit, relieving tyranny is all very well and good, but one shouldn't be expected to do it for one's health. Your priorities are in perfect alignment from my perspective, Godspeed, Good 8Q, keep your rum wet, and your powder dry!

Although the mods that have been done for POTC are great when considered they are from a community of gamers, you are kidding yourself if you think the mods are what have made the game great. It's the concept that's great, the mods have just smoothed up a few rough edges and added a few more features. I loved the original game and the mods just allowed me to enjoy it longer. Mutton dressed up as lamb is still mutton, but I think the original POTC was lamb in mutton's clothing.

The mods are great the game is now worth playnig and the fact that there are not as many bugs really makes the game that much more enjoyable. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />
