Which Game?

iballdriver

Sailor Apprentice
Getting ready to join the pirate world but not sure which game to buy. the POTC(2003) or the POTC jackSparrow(2006)? from reading these boards it seems as though mod 13 is the way to go. which game was mod 13 made for? or are they one in the same?
thanks,
iball

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

My game has copyright 2003

and the manual has Akella logo on back.

and your question is my favorite

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

(Runs screaming down the street)

Too many similar names . . .

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009YUGP/002-8316785-7103220" target="_blank">This</a> Game.

Note: Disney is not a deciding mark on the package -> seems that all variants <i>can</i> have this mark on them.

Welcome to the forum <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> , and don't worry about RLB running screaming down the street, he will be back soon <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

This forum deals entirely with the 2003 Potc, and we try to turn it into a open-ended pirate game, with the focus on ship sailing and the simulation of a privateers life. The Build mod compilations add tons of new features to the game that ensure you won't get bored soon.

POTC jackSparrow(2006) is FAIK a hack'n slay action adventure with no serious maritime part.

always the same question! it never stops! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> anyway, the other game takes an hour to finish, and PotC can take weeks.

and who says i wasn't? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> anyway, PotC is your best bet, unless you want some mashy fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

kept me from playing this game for almost 3 years.

you should always look in the old topics for that sort of thing. that's where you can find all the answers. what almost all the people do is search in the new ones.

okay. here's my next noob question. as i am awaiting the delivery of my POTC, which build mod should i load after i load POTC for the first time? starting from scratch.
thanks,
iball

you should installbuild 12.1, 13, update 3, and then the minor fix that you can find somewhere on the forum, in that order. or you could install build 12.1, 13, and then build 14 alpha 6.

thanks for the help. if i go 12.1/13/14a6, does 14a6 include all the mod13 updates and patches? IOW, does 14a6 "fix" mod 13? trying to get my ducks in a row so i can avoid needless frustration.....
ya'lls input is greatly appreciated,
iball

well, youball <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> , build 14a6 is the test version for new features. you need to know certain bugs so you can work around them, but it contains more stuff than build 13. the updates for build 13 mainly contain stuff from build 14 that has been confirmed working properly.

things you need to know so you don't skrew up while playing:

DO NOT sink the souvereign of the seas before you finish the main quest! if you do, this kills the game.

DO NOT capture greenford before you finish the main quest.

with the 'strange things going on in the archipelago' quest, don't run ahead of things. play the quest as if you never played it before and still have to find out how to play it. in case you really didn't play it before, you start it by talking to the women standing in front of the governors house on douwesen. you HAVE TO follow the instructions and tips you recieve, and read your quest book every time an entry is made to avoid mistakes. this quest is a sort of second main quest.

if you have to sink some ships for a large quest, so not a pirate hunting mission, DO NOT capture the last ship that you need to defeat. as you get transported to another location after you defeat all of them, and you defeat them after you defeat the last captain, the boarding screen or location loads at the same time as the location you are transported to, completely skrewing up the game.

a very good idea is to land at the lighthouse when you have to land on oxbay late in the main quest as it can make the game a lot easier.

also: at a certain point, you get shipwrecked. then, the game runs in slow motion for some reason until you land at another island. no need to be alarmed, just a small temporary annoyance.

should be getting my game today(fingers crossed) please correct my order of loading. been reading and rereading previous posts for the last few days.
POTC
12full
b13full
b13u2
b13u3
b13u3fix(starts with LAi)

not sure where b13u3full goes?
thanks again for everyone's help and patience,
iball

i think that's build 13 with update 1,2 and 3 included. i don't think it includes the fix, as it was uploaded before the fix was made.

take care to follow my things not to do list! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> oh: good starting ships are the ketch, bermuda sloop, and lugger VML. the latter because it's, along with the new black pearl, one of the most detailed ships in the game. one thing you could do as well to make the game more fun to play is to configure the BuildSettings.c file in the main PotC directory. in the program folder, there is also Internalsettings that fine tunes several things, but could be usefull to configure as well.
