Hello you guys. This place is awsome. Anyhow, I was thinking about upgrading from Windows 98 to XP. I have been told Pro is substantially better then Home. Is it really? Let me know! I dont want to pay more for something that is supposed to be better but is just the words of a sales clerk trying to sell me something. TTYL!

I Have XP Pro an I luv it,it is more business suited than Home Edition so if ye don't wanna spend de extra loot go with home edition <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hain't tried XP Home, only used XP Pro. matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I use XP Home and it works great. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The guy I talked to said that Home is not as stable as Pro. But Pretty much what I do is game and draw and browser. So if I dont REALLY need it, I might just get that. No sense in getting something more expensive if the Home version works just as well.

What you do on the computer is similar to what I do and XP Home works fine. Just make sure to get all the updates and you should never have a problem. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Alright, thanks alot. I would rather cough up 149 bucks plus tax then 449. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

I went back to Windows 98 SE <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
I have alot of games that wouldn't work with XP Home for some reason, probably because they were a little older games. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Im not the business type at the moment so I think I will get XP home... Thanks all fer yer advice.

Uh, the question "which is better, Windows XP Home or Pro" seems to ask after a decision for home or pro. The only fitting answer from the poll is "Never tried it". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
But that is 88, because i use win2k and never tried XP. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Thanks for noticing. I cant figure out how to correct it. Oh well, the poll has done its purpose.

I have Pro, and I like it (well, I like it about as much as I like any Microsoft product, wish I had LINUX installed instead, LOL!), but I am geared more towards business.

I've been told, tho, that the Home version has some security issues. I suppose they've been fixed by the service packs - so make sure you get those...

Older games sometimes will not work with XP, but there are ways to get around that.

Those should work with XP, Cap'n McNil! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> WinXP also has a workaround for older games using a localized rollback system called the Program Compatibility Utility which can be found in StartAll ProgramsAcccessories section off of the "START" button. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Couldn't get XP te play Medal O honour fer my son use'n de Compatability wizard, but did werk fer most O' his older games <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

pro and homke are pretty much the same, pro has more functions (networking functions mostly), but from the pointofview of casual gamer no difference.

Really, not MOH, Skull? That's not THAT old a game, either! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

It really does stink that you can't play older games on XP even WITH the compatibility manager. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" /> I've taken to keeping a separate hard drive in my system that boots up to Win98 SE, for playing older games. You have to have a soundcard that handles legacy sound for some, but otherwise it seems to work well with some tweaking...

MY 2c worth

1st XP home and XP Pro differ in mainly one area, networking. If you are going to do networking and need a stable networking environment then XP Pro is the one you need. If you are not too fussed about networking then XP Home will do it for you. However, i would install as a `Dual-Boot` system keeping WIN 98SE and a WIN XP, possibly, on separate hard drives or separate partitions or, the last resort (not too good as they share common folders like "Program Files" <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> ) you can install on the same hard drive and partition.

I have always, personally, used XPPro and haven't really had any problems so perhaps buy for growth and don't limit yourself for future posibilities.
