Fixed [WIP] Merchants transformed into hybrid Navy/Merchant Captains

So @ANSEL, the savegame confusion is cleared up again, right?
But the wrong description bug remains?
 
I boarded a small group of Escorted Merchant. It turns out the Merchant's is a
kind of an hybrid between Merchant and Navy ships, civilian crew and a naval officer as captain.
No Merchant cargo on board. The navy ship was alright soldier as crew and a naval captain.
No one of the captain's have weapons or equipment.
The logs are after I defeated them.

@ANSEL I experienced a very similar bug here:

Fix in Progress - [WIP] Navy Captain equipment | PiratesAhoy!

It was a tier 8, with a hybrid merchant/navy existence just as you describe. The levels also look like the game created a navy captain then turned him into a merchant, from the math I worked out there. (He was level 13 on a tier 8, which looks like he first got the navy 10 level bonus then the merchant 3)

It was with Levis's attempted fix for navy captains have soldier equipment installed (the one posted two posts above that link). I take it from your post you still have that installed?

It might make sense to go back to the original version for now, as while navy captains had muskets and such bad equipment, at least they had something. And there might be a chance that it is causing the broader hybrid bug, though maybe that one is present even with it uninstalled.

Let me know if you'd like me to upload the original before the attempted fix, I can upload my copy if it helps. :) But you might have kept your own backup copy, so I'll wait to hear if you need it.
 
@Tingyun I was not vise enough to make a backup, so if you upload the file,
it will be fine. I'm curious to see what happens when I reinstall it :)
 
Here is is @ANSEL , I put it into an archive so just extract to your game folder:

For the record for any other observers stumbling on this, Levis attempted changing LAi_SetGuardianType(rCaptain); to LAi_SetCivilianGuardianType(rCaptain); to eliminate muskets on navy captains, but it removed all weapons from navy captains, and was never added to the main mod. ANSEL and I tried it out, so we are rolling back to the original version. If you didn't try that fix, you don't need this file.

This will restore weapons to the navy captains, but they will have muskets. That fix is ongoing.

What needs to be figured out: Do ANSEL and I, or anyone else too, still get the weird mixed navy and merchant captain crews with this change reversed?

Let's both pay attention and see if we get it still. :)

Changing a character to Civilian Guardian should not stop that character being equipped! :shock
 
For whatever reason, it did. :p

Also, EDIT on the second bug of hybrid merchant navy captains, as ANSEL's testing confirms it is still around, given their level from my test, 13, for a tier 8, the way that could happen is if the game first made them a navy officer, with the 10 level bonus, then made them a merchant, with the 3 level bonus. Otherwise I can't understand how they got to 13.

Was it a small tier 8 navy ship, or bigger? So far I have only seen it on small ones.

EDIT also, do they now have equipment again?

If captains get no weapons when they're civilian, then apparently their generation is now bypassing the regular equip system.
Strange, since most randomly generated characters pass through it by default.
 
Got it, then not confined to small ships.

So with @ANSEL 's reports, it seems the bug is that:

Some captains are generated with a combination of navy and merchant.

And my measuring of level and tier suggests they get both level bonuses.

And the captain equipment issue from the other thread seems seperate from this.

Yes they have. But is a very quick test I have done, want to do some more
but not to night, I'm almost falling of the chair now.
 
@Levis (for after his exam or whenever)

To sum up, it seems the bug is that the captain should be a merchant, but instead is given some navy-like properties, since @ANSEL finds these guys on merchant ships.

So somehow a merchant captain gets the navy outfit, and also gets a +10 level boost that should be from the navy guys, and his cargo is NOT proper for a merchant.
