world map?

Noob question here,

Is there a way to get a "filled in" world map in the game to pop up, or does anyone know where one is posted online? Do we really just have to blindly strike out and try to find named islands for the first in the game by trial and error?

Thank you!

press F2, then up at the top where ship, character, quests, etc. are, all the way to the left there should be one that says "map" also when you are sailing on the sea map, pressing Tab will let you move the cursor around to see where the islands are

It depends on what version of the game you're playing. If your playing recent versions of the Build , then do as Vengeance recommends and use your (F2) menus. However if your playing Stock POTC then there is no in-game map that I can remember, so check this mighty fine map out ... <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/files/Akella/potc/misc/map/potcmap-col.gif" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.com/files/Akella/po...potcmap-col.gif</a>

Thank you gentlemen!

Is there a way to see what country owns which island before I go sailing into an enemy harbor and get blown up by the fort. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Yep, you should be able to zoom in on the world map with your left mouse button (default). The closer you get, the more detail, including national maps for islands and ports.

Do you see the national flag before you've visited the city? It has seemed to me that you don't, but I could be wrong.

You only see the flag after visiting. However, you can try to not enter 3D sailing mode in the port, then sail into port manually. When you are being fired upon, you know you should sail away again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Aye, matey, and as you approach the port use your telescope to see what nation's flag is flying from the fort.
