Let me say, that you guys are doing a really great Job with the MODS for PotC.

I have a problem with the gun sounds after I installing the Post Build 12 from Pieter Boelen. (Release 18 Sept 2005)

First time I started, I only hear a clicking sound when I fire the small pistol. It sounds like the reloading or pistol out sound.
So I changed the sound.ini and link a new sound for the gun (pistol_smallgun.wav). It'll work fine for the small gun but when I use a bigger gun, the small gun sound is playing again.

Where can I change the sound for the guns, so that every gun play the correct soundfile especially the blunderbuss?

Second thing refer to the music.
I've downloaded and installed the M&C Music Pack and create my own ingame Music from the brilliant Soundtrack of "Cutthroat Island" and I mixed them together and it'll work fine. But my Cutthroat.ogg files are a little to big, I think. They are recorded in very high Bitrate and a Sample Rate of 44,1 Khz.
Can i change the Bitrate of the Files supplementary or should I record them completly new with a lower Bitrate?

Thanks in advance
Jack Black

Btw. I'm seeking the song from "Curse of Monkey Island", I think it's called "The Pirate is was meant to be". I only have the German version of the game and in this version the song is not included, because it is quitly impossible to translate it into German and get all the ryhmings in it, too. (Quote from LucasArts).
I think that song will be great in the Tavern. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />
Did somebody know, where I can find it?

I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about the gun sounds. The clicking has been added so that every gun can have it's own sound. When you fire a gun now, both the gun's sound and the click are played at the same time, but you can't hear the click because the gun sound it much louder. I'm afraid you'll just have to lvie with it, unless someone can come up with a cleverer idea... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

You're working on a Cutthroat Island music file? Now THAT is something I have been looking forward to! I also absolutely love the Cutthroat Island music (I have the full soundtrack - best soundtrack ever) and if I'd have had the time, I would've made a sound add-on already. I did add the Cutthroat Island main theme as menu menu music to the most recent post Build 12 modpack though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I have here a program with which you can convert files from one fileformat to another. It should also be capable of converting them to a lower bitrate. If you can get the files to me, I will convert them to a lower bitrate. Or I could try getting the program to you, but I don't think that's entirely legal... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Yep, you're right. The Cutthroat Island Soundtrack is an amazing Soundtrack and some of the Songs are really great as Sea Battle or Swordfighting music.
And it seems that my music problem has been solved. It shows that my MP3 Converter can convert .ogg files too. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Concerning the gun sounds.
When I fire the gun, I only hear that reloading sound but not the sound of the shot.

Yes, it is my understanding that you only hear the click sound when you fire the gun but are not correctly aiming at a target.

Here's a link to <a href="http://www.worldofmi.com/features/lyrics/index.php?id=6" target="_blank">"A Pirate I Was Meant To Be".</a> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

I'll explain some more about the gun sounds. I was in rather a hurry yesterday and couldn't elaborate further. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

The regular gun sound (played whenever you shoot a gun) is hardcoded (means we cannot change the code) to play whenever you press the "fire gun" key. You can replace the soundfile itself to make all the guns sound different, but you cannot change the code, so you can't make it distinguish between the different guns. To give different guns different sounds, Couchcaptain Charles replaced the default gun sound with the "click". Then he added the code for different sounds for different guns to LAi_events.c file, which contains code that is run every time a shot is fired <i>on a victim</i>. However: The result of this is that you will only hear the "click" when you shoot at nothing and hear the proper sound when you shoot at a target. Unless someone comes up with a cleverer solution, I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about it, because we can't change the code that runs the regular gun sound. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Are you going to release your Cutthroat Island music mod soon? I've been greatly looking forward to that. I usually now just have the Windows Media Player playing music while I'm playing PotC. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

That's not the problem.
I can shoot, I can see the smoke and I hit the opponent. Only the shooting sound is missing.
For now, I write down all the gun sounds into the sound.ini [OBJECTS], so the gun sounds will played randomly, when I fire the gun.
For the most guns it will work well, only the heavy weapons sound a little weird, when a huge smoke cloud appear in front of the gun and the sound of the small gun is played. It sound a little bit ridiculous. A lot of smoke for nothing <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
But anyway. I can live with it ( and I think I have to). Maybe a complete new install will help.

@Catalina
Thanks a lot. Thats exectly what I'm looking for. This song is soooo cool. Now I can hear the vocal vision of "YoHo!" and " The Pirate I was meant to be" in the Tavern.
Your next ale is on me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/monkeydance.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mi" border="0" alt="monkeydance.gif" />

@Pieter Boelen
I'm still working on the musicfiles. But some of the songs are a little too slow <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> to work right as Battle music so I think I have to cut some of them.

No No! Don't cut anything! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
It's ALL excellent! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Have you read what I wrote in my above post about the gun sounds? That is why the click sound will play when you shoot at nothing, which makes it look and sound weird, because you do see the smoke. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Yep, I read your post. But did you read my post?
I didn't shoot at nothing, I shoot at an enemy, it clicks, and I hit him, so he died after the hit.

But the problem has been solved. The complete new installation of PotC and all Builds repair the soundproblem. All sounds play correctly now. Dunno why it's working now, but who ask to many silly questions, will get silly answers. So I don't want touch a running System. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

OK, OK, I don't cut anything from the songs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I test it with the full music. And it worked very well. But the music files are playing a little low. Maybe there is something wrong with my recordings. Can I change the volume of the files somewhere?
In the Optionsmenu the Musicvolume is set to full. But it's too low anyway. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

And I have to add some additional songs from Master and Commander for some special Enviroments, like the Tavern, the Governor or the Church and so on.

From my experience with music, you can set the volume of each song in Music_alias.ini file. Have a look at the PGMus my ambience pack settings.

I'm glad you got it to work finally. Beats me why it didn't work though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

If you convert your music files to .mp3, you can increase the volume with a program called <a href="http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net" target="_blank">MP3Gain</a>. I believe it's freeware, so you should be able to get it without any trouble. Load the mp3 versions in your program and let the program do an "album analysis". Then increase the "normal" volume to a higher level and execute "album soundlevel" (or something like that). Then convert the files back to .ogg. I hope that works. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Personally, I'm not really impressed with the Master and Commander music. What I would like to do is to add the Cutthroat Island tracks in addition to the stock tracks. But if you want to add M&C music, I'll just modify it for myself later. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Anyway: I really can't wait for this mod. It'll be excellent! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Setting the volume in music_alias.ini don't work. Dunno why. I test it with different settings but the volume didn't change.

@ Pieter Boelen
I've only added one song from Master and Commander. It played only in the Governors House. And I've added "The Pirate I was ment to be" to the Tavern. The rest of the Musictracks are from Cutthroat Island. There will be the complete Cutthroat Soundtrack in it, so you can adapt it to your own wishes.
(Provided that I will be able to raise up the volume <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> )
I will test MP3Gain. I hope that will work.

It's done! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I've finished the CI Music Pack and it work very well.

But the whole file is a little big. Over 84 MB after converting it into a .zip file and maybe it could be to big to upload, I think.

Btw, can somebody give me an advice how I can bring this Pack to public? I read something in the forum about a FTP server, but I've never used a FTP server upload before. And I also think that the server is only for Beta Testing for some Mods, and it has a 100 MB Limit. Is that correct?

I believe you can upload your file to a site like www.yousendit.com or www.rapidshare.de . I hope that would work. If I can download it somewhere, I will try to find some place to host it. Don't know where yet, but I should be able to find some space <i>somewhere</i>.

We have a public FTP where you can upload any modding stuff you want. I think it indeed does have a 100 MB limit, so in this case it might be a bit troublesome to upload your file... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No. I like it as well. It's very nice music. But if you play the game a long time, you'll keep hearing the same music. And since the Cutthroat Island music <i>is</i> excellent, I would like to add them as additional tracks. Not replacing the old tracks though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I like some songs of the original game.
I love the Potc movie soundtrack as well as the Cutthroad island music
(descriptive music gets urself into sea, wind, salt and gunpowder smelling)
