First I wanted to say:

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> to all of ye mateys, (since this is my first post and apparently my first thread too)...

I've been playing POTC (build 13 final) and COAS alot lately, so I thought it's about time to join your Jolly community (been as a guest for around 2 years now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> )

OK. Since that's done, let's get to the point of this thread, and there it is: (sorry for the image size)

under full sail
<img src="http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt266/kepsnys/Victory-render.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<img src="http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt266/kepsnys/Victory-render2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

a very very nice shot of a very ehm... nice stern <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
<img src="http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt266/kepsnys/Victory-render3.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

and another nice shot
<img src="http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt266/kepsnys/Victory-render4.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

to admire the rigging
<img src="http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt266/kepsnys/Victory-render5.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Found these in the file with the ACTUAL model and all the textures, so I thought maybe we could get a good use of it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> and I tried to contact the author but arrrgh! - no luck
If anyone is interested in porting it into game (could do it myself, but no 3d expierence - sorry...) or just in textures i can upload the file.

that would be it.

I would be interested in a copy of that file, Cap'n Flint!

Thank 'ee Matie!

Mind if I ask, what are u planning to do with it Cap'n Drow? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Wow... pretty. What's the polycount? And texture count?
And indeed it'd be wonderful to have a genuine Victory model in the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Can't tell - don't have max yet, but a lot apparently... the model is specially made for scene renderers. All I can say it has 3 sets of sails, couple sets of flags, and partialy modeled decks with cannons. It's 51 sepparate parts and fully editable <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> the model is in 3ds format

Well, we <b>do</b> have <i>Victory</i>-ish model ingame, from VCO, remember? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> At this point she's standing in for the <i>Dauntless</i> and <i>Endeavour</i>. Aside from incorrect figurehead, she pretty much does look like <i>Victory</i>.

That's certainly true, Kazeite. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
If she's indeed made for rendering purposes, there'd need to be done a LOT of optimization to her! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

223006 faces incl. sails and rigging. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

all the sails and flags removed: 93949 faces
masts, rigging, cannons, boats removed: 46126 faces
What else can be removed? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Found some row of buckets for fire extinguishing, and some sort of rail on top of forecastle's deck - removed them and what da ya know mates, i ended up with 24311 faces!

My plans would be to use her as a base around which to build a lowER poly version for use in CoAS.

Nothing really needs to be removed. Just needs a lot of polygon reduction work done.

Masts would need to be removed and saved as a separate model in the correct format. Sails and rigging aren't needed, as the game creates them at run time based on locators that are part of the ship model. Guns don't need to be considered separately as they do not actually move when fired. Again, just needs locators placed at the muzzel end so smoke and fire can be generated.

That would be most appreciated, since I couldn't contact with author of this one, I can't tell if we could use this model ingame so a totaly new model would solve that question and it would generally ease up the optimization

I would love to see it in COAS <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> Please don't forget to inform when she's ready, if you manage that

On wich kind of site was it?! any information on the rights?! I guess she was in public download?! Could we just mention the author as we don't make any commercial use of it's model?

Anyway she's magnificent!

Although I downloaded it for free, I think I saw the same model on some pay site (can't remember wich one - needs googling <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ). If it's 'buy to use' I doubt we could add it into the game since it's quite easy to extract it from and that would violate copyrights <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
About the author: It seems I tried to contact the uploader of the file, not the actual author...

Will investigate it further

She looks like a very good ship... Good luck Cap'n Drow in setting her up <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I bought a model before. Unless you are using the model for commercial purposes, the terms usually gives you free play.

Yeah, copy right infringement really applies to making money off someone else's intellectual/phyisical property/work without permission/credit.

As we would be making no money off this or any other model, it doesn't infringe on the copy right. To be safe, you could always credit the maker of the model. If as you own it, you may do with it as you please so long as you don't profit from said use.

Well, ~25k polys plus naybe another 10k for cannons and boats isn't actually <b>that</b> unreasonable for a ship of that size, is it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Regardless, if you are really so concerned about polycount <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />, I see another option: we could use elements from this ship (figurehead, for example) to wake VCO's <i>Victory</i> more accurate.

Good idea too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
