Yet another bug

I started a new game and after a short conversation with malcolm, I was teleported to oxbay port. I had a "dialog" with malcolm again, though this time there was no text and he was walking in front of me. So I talked to him, and a new dialog box appears with these words: <INVALID TEXT>. Then I pressed Space to "reply" and I was transfered to a trade window. Malcolm was selling a blue crystal skull or something that was worth about 43 000 though I didn't know what was it for (and I had 2500 gold lol) but that is really weird.

WOW! How did THAT happen??? Does that occur more often? Maybe it's some sort of completely crazy lunatic-like one-of-a-kind fluke? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

the invalid text thing happens once in a while. it occurs when you go to another location at the exact moment that somebody started talking to you. the skull thing IS really wierd.

Pieter, I've noticed that this sort of thing happens when a player rushes thorough the opening dialog with Malcolm before all the initializations take place.

The best way to avoid this is for the player to watch the text scrolling up behind Malcolm's picture on the upper left hand side.
It's not the easiest thing to do but once you don't see any more text, you can select the dialog option leaving the Tutorial Deck, and all is well.

The initialization should be done during the loading of a new game in Build 13 and the Build 14 Alpha versions. There should be no initialization in the tutorial cabin anymore. I haven't noticed scrolling texts in the tutorial cabin for quite a while now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think the problem is coming from Malcom who try to address you and to start another dialog when you're leaving the tutorial deck. I'm quite shure I wasn't launching back the dialog myself. This bug (excepted the strange buy-a-blue-skull thing) occured to me two or three times, when I was trying to skip the tutorial.

i keep getting surprised by how many bugs people manage to create which have never encountered myself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Sometimes Malcolm does talk to you a second time; I've had that happen to me occasionally as well. I have NO idea when that does or doesn't happen though, so I don't know of anything to do to fix it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Then let me repeat my post. I'm using B13 update 2.

Like I said, there is "log text" that appears on the upper left during Malcolm's tutorial dialog.

If that text is still there when you choose the last option to close the dialog, you wind up at the dock with the Dialog screen still open. Then no other dialog of any character can load!

I suppose that must be checked then. Pretty weird; I thought that was rewritten over a year ago by Nathan Kell. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

It happened to me while I was doing the quest where you have to escort an english ship with troops, then meet an agent. I don't know about Malcolm though, but I've encountered this bug a couple of times with different NPCs.

What is the blue crystal skull for?

being pretty. see it as a souvenir. however, i believe that it also gives you a luck penalty.

yes! that's what souvenirs are for, aren't they? being useless and potentially annoying as well.

you're all over the place, aren't you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I think there was the intent in a gray and distant past to have these skulls feature in some of quest. I don't think that has ever been implemented though.

i occasionally find those blue skulls so i can sell them. at least that lets them have a use.

But Malcolm selling them??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> What a bug...

Yeah, Morgan I've noticed that you post a lot. A rival, lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

oh, you'll never catch up with me mate. not as long as i'm here! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I registered an account here not two days ago, and you have more than 1800 posts, but everything is possible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
