Actually, I'm a member of the <i>Fool's Gold</i> crew, a reenactor's group based in the Midwest. This is our first year, and hopefully we'll be at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival later this summer.

I have a rapier, a cutlass (slung on my back), four flintlock pistols, two boot knives, a smaller dagger for eating, a "cat o' nine tails", feathers t' tickle ye with (torture!), and a drunken "pie-rat" (he's a little rat puppet) on my hat. He's drunk because he's blind in one eye and is wearing a Captain Morgan's Private Stock necktie. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I'd like to get some bracers with throwing knives... Maybe a nice leather baldric...

One day I'd like to actually learn to shoot the REAL flintlock black powder pistol I own. Three of my four are non-firing replicas... At our fest we have what is called "peace-tying". Security makes sure the weapons (blades, typically) are tied off with something that keeps them from being quickly pulled. They trust US to handle our weapons responsibly, but do NOT trust the patrons who may have had just a little too much beer for their own good, who might sneak up on ya and pull your dagger or sword (live steel!) without you knowing it, and then subsequently injure themselves or someone else... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Almost as much as I am. My costume collecting in this regard has been frightfully slow. I'm looking forward to several outfits in the fall. New swords. New coats. New everything.
 
My boots and a new baldric should be arriving this week, and hopefully a bit more swag as well. I'll be posting updated pictures once the collection is complete!

No, no papers needed for the flintlock pistol, and I got it from someone who was selling it on eBay.

The last issue of "Renaissance" magazine had 5 articles on nautical topics, an article about a pirate-themed shop, and a large number of ads for piratical goods. The "management" of the big faire I attend did something really STUPID a few years back, and all the great pirate groups jumped ship for more temperate waters... I'm one of the few renegades still left, and it gave me great pleasure to see that now the "management" sees the error of their ways... Sad thing is, they piss too many people off, and none will return.

The MN Ren Faire had "discouraged" pirates a few years back, but there are so few "corsairs of the cornfields" that it didn't make much of a difference. There are supposedly 3 "privateers" in the Faire cast. Pheh. Beholden to the Royals. My deal with the faire is this: I volunteer pre-faire for setup, with the gardening committee. So I plant flowers and trees, fix up fences and paint, make planters and fountains, and other type-stuff-like-that. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> After working a certain number of hours, I get a free "Faire-ever" pass (actually I get a Faire participant ID) and am able to come in every day for free. Since I work off my obligation to Faire before the faire starts, I don't have to work during faire (some folks do - volunteer at the gate or info stands, or do other things like "rabble rouse" at the jousts).
