<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> VERY nice, Mad Jack!

I especially like the baldric. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> And those BOOTS! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Which pistol model is that, Jack, I don't recognize it. It's not CAS Iberia - is it from a Russian company? (I know you got it from Grendel).

Thanks, Cat! It takes forever to get dressed, but everything is <i>so</i> comfortable!

The pistol is by ReplicArt (a Russian company), and Grendel was the only vendor in the US I could find that had that exact model. I couldn't resist getting a 17th-Century Spanish pistol with a Miquelet lock.

The baldric, from Dorsett House, is wonderful. Very comfortable, and he'll size it for you and even set it up as a right or left-hand draw at no extra charge. Excellent workmanship and great customer service.

Designs By Janelle doesn't yet have a web site (my fault), but you can reach her at <a href="mailto:designs_by_janelle@comcast.net">designs_by_janelle@comcast.net</a>. She's working on designs for adjustable fabric bodices, and her results so far are fantastic.

The boots are incredibly comfortable! The only break-in required is the sole, and that took maybe 15 minutes. They use top-quality leather, and I ordered the combination (riding/walking) heel, and they are very stable for fencing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival, which kicks off this weekend, has added a "Perfect Pirate" contest, along with the trditional "Wench Press" and a free ale tasting. I can't wait!

An update: The opening of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival was today. I did the "unthinkable" and wore my new boots, not broken in by traditional standards, for 8 hours straight on uneven terrain. And that's with people telling me I wasn't swaggering and staggering enough. No blisters, no bruising, no abnormal fatigue. It's like I've owned them for years. In short, I will never buy from any other boot maker but <a href="http://www.caboots.com" target="_blank">Competetive Attitude Boots</a>, whether it's for riding or whatever. A little spendy, but more than worth it.

And I picked up the coolest leather tankard from Excalibur Leather (same folks who made my incredibly comfortable hat). It's got a pliable high-temperature epoxy coating on the inside, so you can fill it with rum or ale in the evening, rinse it out, and drink your coffee out of it the next morning. Plus, it's got the Calico Jack embossed on the outside. The lady behind the counter has used the same one for five years, and you can tell by the way the leather has been worn smooth at the top of the handle that she's not exaggerating. Another excellent vendor of fine leather goods.

I had a discussion with the King, after I'd downed a few Guinnesses. He informed me that piracy was not condoned in his kingdom, and he would see to it that anyone caught in the act of piracy would be hung. I told him that if he were so inclined as to ask my wife, she would glady tell him that I'm already nicely hung, so he needn't bother. I also asked him if he had any plans of stringing up his privateers, since privateering is little more than state sponsored piracy. I informed him that I, too, am for hire. Better to employ me than encounter me (wink, wink, nudge nudge, say no more). So we shared a few laughs and parted company. He then loudly proclaimed that "Should you be caught commiting any act of piracy..." To which I cut him off and replied "Yes, yes, Your Highnifigance. You'll ensure that I'm well hung. How generous you are!" At that point, the Queen completely lost it. It was great!

My wife had a lot of fun showing me off, and vice-versa. There were a lot of other people ther dressed in pirate garb, but little kids and women were seeking me out for pictures and casual conversation. Janelle had a great time shopping and talking to the clothing vendors, and picking up tips from them. It was one hell of a lot of fun.

Oh, and the "Perfect Pirate" contest was a bust. It was for little kids only.

One of the fun things was that I was mistaken for a Faire entertainer on several ocassions, even by Faire employees. People seemed to think that my exchange with the King was staged, and I was sought out by many a tricycle motor and lovely women alike that wanted to talk to or have their picture taken with "Cap'n Jack". We'll see if my popularity holds out in subsequent weekends. I hope so... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Now if I can just get my kitten to quit trying to chew on my hair extensions, I'll be a lot happier. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

GAWD what a riot!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Sounds like you had a great time... Watch out, they'll be after you to join a guild (or start one!), next! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

My mug is a lovely 14 ounce capacity wooden one made of gorgeous exotic hardwoods and hand turned on a pedal-powered lathe. Made by Goodly Woods (not sure if they travel to Minnesota), it is pricey, but absolutely BEAUTIFUL... I love it. Keeps the hot drinks hot, and the cold drinks cold, simply by the virtue of the insulating wood. Handle fits well to my hand, and is great for Guiness...

Those boots are indeed marvelous... Thanks again for the link! Which ones did you get?

I got the "Jack Sparrow Swashbucklers" with the square toe and combination heel. The more I wear them, the more I love them! And I'll keep my eyes open for "Goodly Woods."

It was another perfect weekend - sunny, low 70's, breezy... I spent most of the day drinking Guinness at "Mac's Pub", a.k.a. "Pirate's Cove". Shanties, loud and bawdy fun, and entertainers galore. "My Lady's Cutlass" were there, and they are great! I never thought that belly-dancers would go so well with shanties, but the ladies who dropped in aquitted themselves well. The guitar player, Ian MacFarlane, eventually had to close his eyes or look the other way to keep from being distracted. And they were trying <b>very</b> hard to distract him! It was a riot! And as always, "Puke and Snot" were not to be missed. I kept thinking of Sir Christopher throughout their entire act. Watching someone perform the soliloqy from "Richard III" while eating carrots... You have to see it to believe it.

So, I ate too much, drank too much, and laughed more than I have in a long time. I can't wait to go again!

"Puke and Snot"? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Sounds like the guys we have over here on the left coast - "Sound and Fury" ! They are great.

It also sounds like your Faire hasn't been "corrupted" by a corporation yet... Savor these years while you can, matey... When they start slapping rules on ya, man, the Faire isn't much fun anymore... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Rules... I hear ya! Who needs 'em? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> Peace-tying is one thing - I'm not worried about the bearers of said blades. It's the drunken gentry who might try to grab a sword and play "D'Artagnan" with live metal that scare me. I'd love to carry a reproduction pistol, but I suppose they have insurance liabilities to worry about. But I could carry a quarterstaff if I wished. Funny, one can do a <b>lot</b> of damage with one of those. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

There are corporate sponsors, but the Faire management have taken pains to prevent any one sponsor from getting a bigger share. It's more for product preference than anything else. I hope that remains the case going forward. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Peace tying is for preventing exactly that, Mad Jack - some non-participant or an otherwise beered-up individual who thinks they can wield a sword who pinches yours and goes cutting up people... Lovely, quite a mood-stealer, and utterly deadly to the RenFaire. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

On a lighter note, check out these pix - some great garb here - <a href="http://www.dougherring.com/Swashbucklers.htm" target="_blank">Swashbucklers</a>

Look at the rest of the pics on the site, too! Fun stuff! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Alright Mad Jack! My avatar is me, but here's one I uploaded where I was in the town of YoHo! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

I havent got any pirate clothing persay but I can often be spotted in all black clothing prominently displaying depictions of skulls and the like.
I guess I look like a pirate who ended up in the 21st century, and then went shopping for casual clothes. lol. I'll try to get some pictures.

Here's my latest kit, sans sword and pistols:

Thanks, Cap'n Dams! My wife made the breeches, waistcoat, and shirt from patterns she got from <a href="http://www.reconstructinghistory.com" target="_blank">Reconstructing History</a>. She's making me a new justaucorp (frock coat) for Christmas, and I'll be wearing it on the Mirth and Merriment Cruise (the first ever cruise ship Ren Faire!) in January. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
