your kind of ship??

Vengeance

Landlubber
do you like those large 100 cannon sink another ship with one sidesweep type of ships or those small fast ships that can basically board every ship in the battle without taking any damage what so ever type of ships? i like the smaller ones <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

You might want to have a look at <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=338" target="_blank">this</a> thread. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

i like the manowars. i just use quick turnaround, blast the masts of those little ships with chain, and then squash them. works much better, and it's fun. i do like the pirate corvette though.

I prefer frigates, actually - the perfect balance of speed and firepower. Anyone I can't outfight I can outrun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

corvettes are faster and more manuevrable. if you've got high sailing skill, you'll be whirring around on the spot fireing from all sides. besides, the pirate corvette, my personal favorite, is amongst the fastest ships in the game. it's only main enemy is a schooner, although it can handle them pretty well by just shooting it. the only problem with fighting them is that they often escape before you sink or board them. chain is a must in those cases.

It will make me sound odd admitting this, but since I have been working on Galleons, Fleuts and Caravels for so long, I'm really getting to like them!

The Light Caravel is a nice challenge to sail and fight with. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

i know what you mean. i'm having the same thing with the gunboat. although bloody useless, it's great fun to use! especially because it's near impossible to hit. in fact, i think you could fight almost anything with it. i managed to get a pinnace with it once. war galleons aren't bad actually, as long as they're pirate designed. they're still slow, but not so slow that it's a big problem in combat. i only once used a caravel and i absolutely hated the thing. you can't even race a fish in it! anyway, most of the time, it's a sitting duck, although i might get used to using it when i get the chance. who knows, i might actually manage. besides, the short while that i had the thing wasn't in the most ideal conditions. it was in the middle of battle, and if you need to board something else in a rush, that's pretty impossible.

Man, I like a lot of ships. I think for small ships, I like the schooner the best. If I can ever find the time to do it, I would like to make another schooner model for a big schooner (three masted with better armor, less turning, and heavier guns. It should in actuality have better top speed than the normal schooner because it is longer, but because the fast schooner is already so fast, I think it would be bad for gameplay balance). The bigger schooner would be something like a faster, lighter, more versatile alternative to a smaller frigate (aka what the game calls a "corvette"). I also think it would be cool to add a model for a small schooner (I have already started work on the model, but it may be a while before I get much done considering the fact that I'm studying aerospace engineering)

I also like smaller frigates and "corvettes". The bigger frigates are cool, but are too slow in potc for my liking. The thing I don't like about the corvettes/etc is their stupid decks. The actual ship models are pretty good, but the decks are just stupid, so I tend to stick to schooners and brigs (particularly the brigantine even though again, the deck is stupid). Of course I'll have to try out the <i>Surprise</i>. I think that personally I do like the normal frigate better than the corvette aesthetically though. I especially like to use the "normal" frigates (really too heavy to be normal) to sail right into the middle of an enemy merchant convoy and start blasting.

Eventually I'll get to the point where I will probably have a fleet consisting of a couple of ships of the line, a frigate, and either a schooner or brig to slow down/cut off the faster ships. I think I am best on a ship of the line commanding other ships. It would be even better if I could give my ai ships a course to follow too...

well in my opinion i still roll with the new black pearl version currently out cuz its just so sweet lookin and is an all out good killing machine but ill go for the heavy warship also but not the one that looks like the battleship

i think he means he doesn't like the flush deck with the cabin on the back. which i, in fact, do like pretty much. it's a more modern design and you can actually see what's in front for a change.

I mainly just don't like the stairs to the quarterdeck. Plus the decks seem so empty on the corvette and frigate. I like the flush deck design of the Victory though. With the brig and brigantine, I don't like the stupid hole in the cabin. And then there's windows on the tiny little "cabin" things? It's just weird. It would be nice for it to have a proper quarter deck. Plus, the cannons are way too close together. In reality, the men would be fighting each other trying to load their cannons more than they would actually be fighting the enemy. You'd be lucky to fire half your broadside off by the time the enemy fired his twice (maybe a bit of an exageration, but...). I really like the Interceptor model so far, but I think it would be cool to have a new brig model that actually has a gun deck so the guns can be spread out more. Man, I really want a lot don't I? For now I guess I'll just see if I can do anything with the schooners and maybe some of the other coding things I've talked about.

I suppose there's a reason you're called "Lord Perfect". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Right! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

And now my suggestions: Corvette DOES need some more stuff on deck and a WHEEL! Pity it ends up with reversed lighting by doing that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sad" border="0" alt="icon_sad.gif" />

Many stock potc ships in game actually need a Wheel. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

actually, ships of that time didn't even use a wheel. but they do look good. a wheel on the 'corvettes' should be put in front of the cabin, but then you can't get past that way because of the lifeboats and the mast in front. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> on the quarterdeck would be the next best option.

If the wheel is made as a seperate GM file, we could limit the reversed lighting effect to the wheel only and not the entire ship. Like the railings on the fleuts.

There might've been, but I wouldn't know where to find it no more. If you catch it floating around, be sure to tell me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

i'll scout the FTP, just to be sure.

well, i couldn't find it, but it might be in some of the packages sent between you, maximus and pirate_kk, although i doubt it.

No, it isn't. I would've known if it was. I think Kazeite posted it somewhere as attachment to a post. We'll be hard-pressed to find that one again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
