    The best method I have found it to go crazy for gold in the early stages - and then to keep the crew small. With under 100 crew, you can keep them from slitting your throat with a small amount of gold. A few payrolls and treasure ships and you are laughing. Cap'n Darius

You can carry on playing until you get 24/24 for wealth (I'll bet you won't have it - or are likely to have it when you divide the plunder; you need a total of 300,000 gold valuing land at 10 gold per acre.
