It's an expanded, retail version of the ReCon mod for City of Abandoned Ships. They're just continuing their work on the newer Caribbean Legend branch of Storm. Event : The epidemic, help !
I'm extremely late to this but hopefully this helps someone on google or something: you have to spend a ridiculous amount of time on land before it goes away. You will probably lose your hired officers in the process. It's better to just reload and sink infected ships.- Iguferon

I would love to know detailed differences between new horizons, beyond new horizons, and maelstrom new horizons besides "they are on different engines and different people are maintaining them" but the closest thing there is, is the captainshaven website located here- Iguferon
