Buy Cannons

A question about difficulty
I just bought the game a few days ago and I'm having a blast! However, I can't seem to get to a higher difficulty beyond apprentice. The game gives me no option to start on a higher difficulty level, and when I divide the plunder it doesn't give me the option of changing it. Other than that...- Raider
