    Interesting story and great loot at the end! The AI sometimes does this, they try to run and sometimes (I don't know if on purpose or random) the all run in a different directions so you have to choose who are you going to go after.

    Yes, enemies do that too but very rarely (maybe 5 or 6 times after 20 hours of playing). Officers do it all the time.

    I just started a new game and tried it so they were brand new officers. Attacking them on the ship does get them to attack me back. Attacking them while on shore doesn't, as @Tingyun said, they don't mind.

    @Tingyun, Really? They always attack me. @Pieter Boelen, I thought it was normal for them to attack, like it's treason or something. It only happened while boarding or just on the ship while at sea. I don't know about a brand new game, it was always on mid game.
