    dine with the captain

Is it possible to give NPCs (mainly crew, officers have useful melee special abilities and aren't quite as vulnerable if they're fighters) an innate regenerative ability? Or maybe give them natural armor of some sort since you can't equip them with armor anyhow. I've tried that...heck, I don't...

    dine with the captain

I think that might help. The only place where it might unbalance something (that I can tell) is with Officers and landing parties of crew. Those guys need at least some regenerative ability or they're complete toast. I tend to give away most of my potions to them anyhow and the crew, at...

Oh, the films are an insane mess and I can barely follow the plot myself to tell the truth. But the setting, dialed back a notch or two and a bit more fleshed out, has some huge potential.

A true Pirates of the Caribbean game would probably have to be the product of a very unique mod project. It would have to be almost from the ground up. That said, I'm thinking a party-based adventure game with shipboard combat, such as we already have, combined with a historical-fantasy...

    A random string of thoughts...

Well, for some reason I'm thinking Pirates of The Caribbean takes place in the 1720's. But it's certainly early 18th century. The ships we see tend to be more advanced designs I think. But it's also not the 1720's we know either. Think about the relationship between supernatural entities and...

FYI - it looks like encounters are set to Random by default in the Build 13 mod. I'm going to just see if jacking up the difficulty won't help. I love winning fights but these big warships seem to either run or surrender far too readily as well as being far too common.

    A random string of thoughts...

I believe that any kind of serious warship in the Caribbean was fairly unusual and a cause for alarm. Most European powers were far more concerned with what was going back home. Even in the days of the Spanish treasure fleets the galleons were supposed to act as their own defense and they were...

Those are good points! I suppose I should probably simmer down and play through at least one full campaign before tossing out all these ideas. But I am getting enough into things that I'm making some room on my bookshelf for the Visual Guide to Pirates of The Caribbean and The Secret Files of...

All that math is way out of my league but I think I'd like to see the kind of results you're aiming for. Getting ahold of any ship the size of a frigate or larger is probably a pretty big deal historically and would mark you as someone to be hunted down by the colonial powers. In the Pirates...

As the doctors say, "First, do no harm." Ultimately PoTC is a game about pirates, merchants or privateers in a really fanciful setting only tenuously based on historical, or realistic, elements. This is a setting based on a mythological approach to the world of pirates. Or, for fellow...

    dine with the captain

Agreed. I suggest we focus on the events first and even create event type categories to break it down further. Background Events: Events that arise from NPCs. Can be conditional based on Reputation, Class or National Origin (or Loyalty if we decide to include that element). Shipboard...

    Major breakthrough with Akella

Perhaps, for now, something less formal would do. We're not negotiating world peace after all. How about instead of telling them what we want we simply limit it to describing what's done here and asking what kind of cooperation they might be interested in. Let's start this out friendly with...

At risk of going somewhat further off topic I'll respond at length here to the ideas presented: <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->1.1 Gameplay vs. Realism This is a topic that is being brought up very frequently. A common misconception is that...

Things a Lubber Should Know About Pirates of The Caribbean - Pirates Ahoy! Style

Good stuff. Question: What does setting the difficulty level actually do? I'm guessing it makes duelling AI tougher and raises the morale on NPC ships? Anything else?

Things a Lubber Should Know About Pirates of The Caribbean - Pirates Ahoy! Style

There is a readme already in the Options screen that describes (kind of) many of the functions in the latest build. Redoing that to be more inclusive and streamlined would be what I'd really like to do!

dunno if you guys have seen this one yet...

I stumbled across that and read some informal reviews. Sounds like an Asian-style MMO with lots of grind and very little sim. Probably not my cup of tea (or Wild Turkey as the case may be).

    Swashbucklers

For some reason the topic didn't update for a few days on the forums. I posted my review-thing and it didn't appear as a new post in the headers. Was just seeing if that was a fluke or what.
