Flashy exterior on an otherwise dull game?

A patch that REMOVES the ships? Would be a step back IMO. I like the surprise and tension in the original, but there must be other ways of getting that. There should at least be a patch that lets the other ships attack you, and you have no way to flee.

There is such an easy way to defeat EVERY dancing move EVER

I don't mind people doing it that way, I've been saying that all along. What I find strange is how people can't see how it's cheating. The developers are the ones who put cheats in the game, if you have a game where you're supposed to start with only 10.000 cash or something, but you can cheat...

How do you "use" stuff on the ground during swordf

I've never pressed 9 and I've been grabbing the rope several times. I think it's more based on your placement and the random items that are put in the duel scene. If an item is on the ground and you're standing in the right spot, pushing the 1 will use the `ground-item`. If you're standing near...

I don't get offended by ignorant and lowly comments, Black_Pearl.

    Need help

I guess for peope who like FPSs, `Half-Life` 2 is probably the best choice. For me, who's hated every FPS I've ever played, it would be an obvious choice. Besides, I already LOVE the original, so I know what I'm getting into.

    Capturing Towns

Cap'n Toast: have you tried walking into a friendly town on foot? "Park" your ship close to the town and walk up to it with your guys, and you'll get the option of attacking them (if you have enough men that is... otherwise it's just blurred out). From my own experiences, attacking the town with...

    Spanish Treasure Fleet

A question here: I've encountered treasure galleons from other countries as well! I thought the `treasure-fleet` was a spanish thing, but I've attacked both an english and a french treasure ship too.

    Need help

No, there are several treasures. 9 I think. The game isn't over until you retire of your own free will, or when you're forced into retirement because of age and health. You don't run around in town freely, like in the original you just choose where to go. Maybe we'll see a full `free-roaming`...

Flashy exterior on an otherwise dull game?

Sorry to ruin your fun, but I've tried telling you that you just need to go in on foot, and you'll automatically have the option of attacking the town. Screw the spacebar, just dock your boat a few meters from town and walk in on foot. You'll have the option to attack town. Am I a ghost around...

Flashy exterior on an otherwise dull game?

You can attack any town, if you go in on foot. I just discovered that not many hours ago (yesterday). You've been playing this game for a few days. That alone shows that you found it fun. The true beauty of this game, like the original, is that you never grow tired of it in the long run...

    Rate each minigame !

I won't digits. Too little difference between 9,3 and 9,4 anyway. Sailing - 9/10 I love the mood, the controls feels great. If they weren't fun to do, then the game wouldn't be fun to play, as it's close tom `60-70`% of the game. Swordfighting (I prefer that name, more piratey) - 8/10...

Anyone have screenshots from the original pirates game?

Notice how superiour the Amiga version is? It's almost like they're from a different era. I read somewhere on that other forum (Addicted to Pirates, I think), that they played the C64 version because it was the best looking version. How wrong could he be.

    Command a Famous Expedition ???

I never really understood the difference... but then again, I never had a manual. Even my original amiva version that I managed to get hold of at a later point is missing the manual. I'm always unlucky when it comes to this game. I will NOT let the opportunity to get an original Pirates! game again.

    cannons

I believe it's different, as with the treasure chests, and everything else. The only thing I think is consistant are the towns (although they're different depending on which era you choose to play in).

Does Build 12 make the game much more like Sea Dogs?

I saw that one of the main gripes I had (besides all the bugs and joykillers) with this game is "fixed". Namely the ability to sidestep. I want to try this game and give it another go now, perhaps I'll like it better. Problem is, I have the european version, and build 12 isn't fixed for that...

    cannons

If you have a lot of cannons, you can fire round shots, and before the cannons cease fire, quickly change ammo. That way you'll fire two kinds of ammo.

Can the Characters speak English? How?

You CAN turn them down, you know... or are you afraid to hurt their feelings? I don't think it has any affect on the relation with the country, only the daughter.

Is the swordplay ridiculously easy for everyone else too?

Yeah, I'm not too good with this game yet, so it seems I'll have to go back to Rogue. I could do Rogue pretty simple, but with Swashbuckler, I only win every fifth fight or so. But anyway, I've just fallen in love with `land-battles`, so I keep marching into friendly towns with lots of people...
