    Thanks so much, man. That worked, I launched the boat, talked to him (he admits he is the pirate), then killed his crew. After that I had to return to my ship and storm his ship. Thanks for ending much frustration.

    increase loyalty

    I've found it very easy to increase evil leaning officers loyalty by storming ships with overpowering force (so they surrender rather than fight) then throwing all the captured sailors overboard. They also seem to like throwing enemy captains overboard. Also, selling contraband to smugglers...
