    Mod downloads section?

Sounds like a tough one, does the game recognise custom files even when the original files are still present in the FPK files?

    Capturing Towns

In that case, it could be something to do with the number of survivors left after the battle, as some of them appear to flee back into the city.

    Speed up mod please

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before somebody finds how to change ship statistics or wind statistics.

Flashy exterior on an otherwise dull game?

I know what you mean about the repetitiveness of the game and I agree that it shouldn't always be the same character that provides the map pieces. There are a whole host of extra features which 'should' be in a game like this, but no game is perfect. I wouldn't call pirates the best game, but...

    Need help

Well it depends what type of game you are into. Pirates is good for its open endedness and strategy, whereas HL2 wowed me with its fancy graphics, perfect game pace and immersiveness. As for the graphics issue, it's one of the 'features' of the game, that everything is stylised, rather than a...

    Capturing Towns

It seems that shooting a town from the sea reduces the wealth of the town (from wealthy => poor) as well as reducing the inbuilt garrison, but only to a certain level (you won't be able to reduce it to 0). According to another thread, you have to win by a large margin to be able to instil a...

    Montavas hideout

The locations are randomised. When I had the map, it was near Vera Cruz, and I'm sure it changes from game to game.

    Rate each minigame !

    1. Sailing - 6.0 Gets you from one point to the other, nice to see all the activity going on with ships going here and there, and colony growth as well. I wouldn't say the graphics are dazzling, but they do the job. 2. Fencing - 6.0 Patterns get repetitive after a while, and the linear...

    Lost cities

You'd be wondering why your wife doesn't just give you all the maps at once, makes you want to shoot her for making you dance 4 times <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":g1" border="0"...

    Sloop, Brigantine, or Frigate?

Depends on your pirating style, if you like pulling up alongside and exchanging cannonballs (then the biggest frigate), or dodging around using finesse to wear down the enemy (then the sloops/pinnaces). Personally I prefer the smaller ships as its more challenging, and travelling on the main map...

Does tacking into the wind work right?

Also look in the pirate pedia, click on specific ship types and click on the best directions the ship sails at, it will show a diagram of sailing directions that will help.

    Best ship?

Depends on your style of play. Pound for pound, ship of the line, or the next best warship is the large frigate. If you like running around dodging cannon fire and wearing down the enemy, royal sloop or even a pinnace will do the job (assuming you don't get hit)

    Dividing the plunder question

There are two purposes to dividing the plunder. 1) If your crew get too unhappy, dividing the plunder will allow your crew to take their share and leave, fulfilling their purpose of joining you in the first place. As has been mentioned in many other threads, crew happiness is affected by how...

Where are the Ships of the Line???

Well, this is going to confuse the situation more, but I saw it very early in the game, maybe a few months in? I knew I had to have it, but my equipment and crew was insufficient, I took a chance on dodging enough cannonballs to disable it, but it didn't pay off :P Having said this, I think...

Where are the Ships of the Line???

It seems to be the case the following from what I've read (I've only seen one before, and I was sunk trying to capture it). 1) Everybody except the Spanish have access to them. 2) There is a very small chance that in the later time periods, if a nation is annoyed at your pirating enough...

    FPK

    Excellent! thanks for the quick reply <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

    Being granted land by govenors

Yeah it adds to a final score. You can't see or access your land, it just adds to the score, just like your share of the coins when you divide the plunder. Consult your scoring screen to view how much land you have amassed.

Does tacking into the wind work right?

Might be covered already, but it seems to depend alot on the type of ship. Ships with triangular sails are better at sailing towards the wind than those with square sails.

    Swirling halo during a swordfight?

I've noticed if you use a combo like low, then immediately mid or high after that, it uses a nearby object like a bucket / sickle. Not 100% confirmed though.

    FPK

Is there a utility to unpack the FPK files? I noticed somebody mentioned that on some installs the FPK files are already unpacked in the directory?
