Your cabin is your personal space, so we've added the ability to change its paint scheme to your liking. :checklist Different paint schemes will be unlockable through exploration and various challenges, which we'll have more details on at a later date. Some of the current paint schemes are...

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

To answer those suggestions: We can't change the transparency for the lower hull without splitting it into a separate mesh, which we're not doing for performance reasons. Localised fog is not possible without a specialised lighting asset. We did try one a while ago, but it only worked on...

Sort of. I was able to make this adjustment which isn't perfect either, but I do think it looks better: Now there's a depth test to stop objects like cannons showing inside the hull, which also makes them more reliably appear in front of the hull where they extend out of the ports.

We've shown off quite a few clips from our shipyard scene, but now we finally have a UI that allows you to actually buy new ships. :sail All prices and stats are placeholders and will change in the final game! This is actually the first of several iterations we have planned. A later version...

I used a Core i5 4300U with HD 4400 graphics. Starting to show its age now, but the results were respectable.

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

We have a few simple graphics settings that make a huge difference to performance in this game, and as a result, it should run on almost any PC with a DX11-compatible GPU. Less of this: :modding, more of this: :type1. I've tested it on a laptop with Intel graphics and the game is very playable...

Today, Skyward Digital is proud to share the latest trailer for Buccaneers!, this time focused on VR gameplay. Check it out below: As a reminder, Buccaneers! is coming soon to Steam, Xbox One and the Oculus Store, and will be playable with or without a VR headset (on supported platforms). You...

    Buccaneers! Ship Name Suggestions

We're using Unity, though we've had to get creative to add some of these features. :type1 The text on the stern, for instance, is basically a UI text element in 3D space, but with a double curve applied to make it conform to the ship. It's actually the same method we used to make the curved...

    Buccaneers! Ship Name Suggestions

What good is a ship's name if it's not proudly displayed on the stern? This is a feature I've wanted for a long time, and now we've added it along with a renaming UI. :dance Bearing in mind your first ship in Buccaneers! will be an 18-gun light sloop, what would you call yours?

We're aiming to release our full VR trailer next week, and we'll make more of a marketing push alongside it then.

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

As I alluded to in a previous post, we now have a working compass in VR mode. We even attached a small wind vane to its lid so it can double as a wind indicator, though there are plenty of visual cues to help with that as well. There's not much use for the compass right now, other than being...

    Visible Damage on Ship Decks.

Honestly, I don't mind either way. Are the other named paint schemes (e.g. Constitution) repaint options for their respective classes?

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

This has been part of the non-VR mode since the start, and it looks better in motion than it does in still images. Technically it can be turned off in the graphics settings, as we have "high" and "low" quality water modes. We'll think about it, but that would be a low priority feature at this...

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

One of the biggest things our VR mode has been missing compared to non-VR mode is water reflections, which simply didn't work with stereoscopic VR rendering. Now, though, we've finally managed to add proper support for it, and it makes a noticeable difference: :sail

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

If you manage to lure them up there with you, sure! :duel: We're still working on the AI's ability to climb, so for now the only ones up on the masts will be snipers, but that will eventually change.

    Buccaneers! Screenshots and Videos

Every captain should keep practising their swordfighting skills, and we now have a training scene on the player's ship for that purpose, complete with wooden/straw dummies. Better still, the player can now climb ladders and rigging in VR. You can't truly appreciate how tall your masts are until...

    Buccaneers! Ship Name Suggestions

The official answer is "after the Golden Age of Piracy", which is deliberately vague. Internally, we consider it to be set between the mid-18th and early 19th centuries, which is still vague but gives us a rough guide for consistency's sake. Indeed, that site is my go-to whenever I need to look...

    Buccaneers! Ship Name Suggestions

Thanks for all your suggestions so far! I've added lists to the first post to keep track of the names. :checklist Looks like Britain and the Pirates have a lot of love, but some more French and Spanish names would be good as well. I'll add them both to the Pirates for now. :pirateraft Well...
