A Few Problems

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> i've been playing POTC for a few day's now, i've actually had the game for around 5 months but i could never get it to play, then i bourght Se4a Dogs and a few day's ago decided i would give POTC one last try and it worked, i'm guessing maybe Sea Dogs did something that changed the way POTC installed i don't know but anyway i haven't uninstalled Sea Dogs for that reason.

I have a few problems, i've installed Buld 13 final (which is a very nice update, well done to all the modders involved and those who helped test for bugs etc) i enabled_cheats just till i get use to the new mods, i would go to my ship and within seconds my masts would collapse and then my ship would sink thanks to enemy ships in the harbour. So i enabled cheats so i could buy a nice ship after i lost my first ship at least that was the plan, funny though because this time when i started the game i did the normal thing selling everything but the cannon balls, grape shots etc and reparing the ship, i then went to my ship Sloop and expecting the enemy to now sink my ship i waited for a few minutes nothing happened, i speeded the game up to max and still nothing happened, the harbour defence was sinking a few enemy ships but i wasn't been attacked.

I went back to shore and sold my sloop, i then started entering the money cheat and increased my rank, i then bourght the best ship i could (not sure what it was, class 4 though) i then headed to the tavern for more crew members and to see if any officers was there (which there wasn't) i headed to my ship and again no one was attacking me, so i sailded close to the enemy ships out of the harbour in real time mode with speed x2 and still i wasn't attacked.

After i was out of rang of the enemy ships i entered map mode and sailed around looking for a battle, after about 5 minutes i saw a battle between the french and pirates, i joined in sinking the small ships i was near and trying to catch up to the MOW that was to my left fighting with some pirate ship i couldn't see it that well must have been a high class ship because it was taking a heavy battering.

I enabled god mode and took the MOW and then most smaller ships gave up but i took there officer on and gave him control of his ship back and took all cargo apart from cannons + ammo for myself, by the end i had taken a second MOW and had a corvett (spelling) aswell, i headed towards land in the hope to find a naural port to repair the ships and sell the other ships and all the cargo abour my ship which i had taken from every ship i boarded and sunk or kept. The game then crashed to the desktop but without an error message, not sure why and was hopping perhaps someone could give me a possible reason as to why it would crash. There was my ship, the other 2 ships of mine and 2 pirate ships in the harbour, i sunk one pirate ship and let the other one sail away the harbour guns then targeted me and for a short while i sat there thinking why are you attacking me then i noticed i hadn't changed my flag the English flag i was flying was enemy and i was in a french port, funny i was about to sell the french there ships back without knowing i was in a french port.:p

2. When tageting in manual mode an enemy ship the crosshair will only allow me to target just above the haul of the ship, i can't target the sails.

Well first off, you are posting this in the wrong forum. This should be in the build mod forum and not in the AoP forums. But either way we will get you as much help as we can.

1. There are various known crashes in the build mod, but those are quickly becoming more infrequent as the bugs are hunted down and squashed.

2. The range you can elevate or depress your guns to is dependent upon the ship you are using and the caliber of cannon you have mounted.

If there are any other changes that were made or I'm mistaken on any of this, I'm sure I'll hear about it along with you. **grins**

Sorry, that explains why i couldn't find this topic, hopefully a member of staff will move this topic to its rightful place soon, again sorry.

I didn't think about the cannon types, i'll have to read about the different cannons and how to change the caliber to what ever is the best the ship i'm using can use.

No worries. It'll eventually get moved if necessary. We are friendly and helpful pirate crew here and always willing to try to help a mate along.

Update, just tried again with god mode, and level rank increased to 54 i think (perhaps thats why it crashes to high a rank not sure) anyway the game doesn't crash straight away i entered the cheats some 30 to 45 minutes before the game crashed, but the game crashed again while trying to get to a friendly harbour. The only thing i've changed is starting ship is now the Black Pearl, i have now changed the file back to the default starting ship and i'll try now to play the game and not use any cheats to see if its my game or if its some bug.

Is there a logs file that records everything that happens in the game, perhaps clearing the games cache file (if there is one) will fix this problem, just incase here are my system specs.

OS: Windows XP Pro
Ram: DDR400 2.5GB's
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.5Ghz (single core)
Video Card: Navida 7600 gs 512MB's
Hard Drive: 160GB's with 30GB's free space remaining.

By the way the Black Pearl (not sure if its already been pointed out) but when in 1st person view i can walk to the left or right of the ship but if i try to go up the stairs at either the back or front of the ship i go through the ships deck and i can go straight through all the ships in the centre of the deck. Apart from those small problems its a nice ship, and from what i've been reading its a ship to try and avoid getting into a fight with.

Update:
After further testing i have ruled out that its my game randomly crashing although at which points it crashed proved that already but anyway i tested to see just to be on the safe side and it looks like its the cheats, now i need to see which cheats are to blame, i will start a game later and test each cheat out i still think its the pirate experience points, using the cheat too much trying to max everything out i think triggers the crash, the other possible problem could have been to do with the story not starting off as it should ie, at the start my ship been sunk by the French ships attacking from the outset. In both previous games i wasn't attacked at all and both those games crashed, last nights game started the same but when i returned to the port my ship was sunk by the French ships and then the short scene telling the story about a small ship escaping etc and that game didn't crash and i had used some cheats (money and experience) i used the money cheat to buy me a new ship and the experience to max out both cannon and accuracy, i didn't use god mode this time, i wanted to test that out to see if it was that cheat.

When i'm use to the game and have found out what triggers the crashes i will play without the cheats but for now i want to have fun and learn the easy way, i should then be able to tell a few war stories of my own.
