Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships is the latest instalment in Akella's ongoing series of pirate-themed PC games. While it is a major improvement over the first Age of Pirates, it still has its fair share of rough edges. Note, though, that this game was primarily developed by Seaward.ru in partnership with Akella, so this game lacks many of the bizarre bugs Akella's seagoing series has oft been noted for.Â
The main quest, depending on what character you pick at the start of your game, is very enjoyable and surprisingly long. Should you get tired of it, though, rest assured, there's a great many side quests to take your mind off your character's ultimate destiny. You can stick with the humdrum, boring "haul 100 units of Rum to Barbados"-type quests, or delve into the unusual by hiring yourself off as a regal lady's own personal assassin or helping to find her missing husband. You can join up with other captains you meet in taverns to partake in larger raids, or help save the economy of the islands by taking out a particularly nasty pirate disrupting the merchant trade. Heck, you might even find yourself helping out the owner of the local brothel, by making a charitable donation to the church in somebody else's name for her. There seems to be no end to what you'll find in terms of weird and unusual side quests to keep yourself busy for ages!
