Ok I am sailing my English fleet into a Dutch port (St. E) to restock and repair after a long stint at sea, the Dutch are Neutral to me and although they are at war with France who considers me a friend I give no thought to putting into port.
Little was I aware that at that very moment a garbled message appeared (you know the one, I found it, look in modding forum) screaming that "I FRANCE BOOTY DUTCH YES YES".
Wondering whether my lookout had just gone plain mad I then noticed a huge armada approaching the Dutch port for an assault on the fort.
I ordered my vessels to strike sails and merrily stood aside and watched the battle ensue.
What first struck me and my crew as a little odd was when a Dutch vessel opened fire on another Dutch vessel apparently leaving the port, it was then that a call from the crows nest pointed out that several of the vessels under fire from the fort were also flying Dutch colours.
I whipped out my trusty exquisite spyglass and surveyed the French force, to my astonishment about 75% of the fleet were flying Dutch colours, a cunning French ploy perhaps?
Well as the battle ragged on and I went about picking up the flotsam of sinking ships (I have to make a profit somehow <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ) the fort with its remaining 36 guns suddenly surrendered, a great victory for the French?
Well not exactly.
You see all of a sudden my skipper tells me that I can land troops on the Neutral Dutch port?
Hmmm steal the prize of the victorious Friendly French (Dutch)?
Aye, says I!
I landed my forces and quickly plundered the city ransacking a whopping 96000 in gold for my meager efforts!
As I prepared to leave the Dutch port I realised I may have just made an enemy of the Neutral Dutch and quite possibly the French(Dutch?) invasion force lying just out to sea.
To my happy surprise however the French didn't seem to care and the Dutch themselves were so extactic they decided to move my status from Neutral to Friend, despite the fact my nation was still at odds with them though not at war.
Crazy days at sea no?
(I was using Supermod on unpatched and have a save game if anyone cares to try it out).
