Dear Pirates,

While I was working on the gigantic Build 14 / NH manual project I took some experimental footage of gameplay using a mobile phone camera on a large widescreen LCD monitor. Surprisingly, it provided the capacity to make far more dynamic videos than one could record from Fraps - and the "shaky" effect made it look like Battlestar Galactica.

With that in mind I set out to write a little story based on the one I had in the manual as a gameplay guide, to bring you these two video presentations:

Battle for Liberty
Act 1: Treatise of Autumn
Act 2: Mistress of the Seas
Intro Sequence

A third presentation is underway and will encompass only sea battle footage using the Master and Commander soundtrack, this is on hold pending the commencement of the Secrets of Far Seas 2 English translation project.
 
That looks really cool. The fuzzy look achieved by that mobile phone camera actually seems to give it a sort-of cinematic look.
Do you still have the original video files? We can post them on the ModDB. :yes

BTW: Would be nice if we could do something about those "surrendered ship" flags.
All ships have got pennants where they should, but they're replaced by ugly squarish flags once they surrender. :facepalm
 
Of course I have originals - I should just register on moddb so I can upload there directly, yes? That is provided I can upload to the mod page at all! I will advise via PM.

Act 3: Shades of Grey

In the face of mutiny from a crew that had been itching for action for the past few months, Captain Alexandra makes a controversial decision to spare the Spanish galleon Santa Anna from Ms. Morgan Adam's commerce raiding campaign.

The sudden appearance of two large pirate vessels gunning for the Santa Anna then changed everything.

I wanted to use some Cutthroat Island music as I violently disagree with the movie reviews. There is a reason why that film is my childhood favourite, and remains my favourite to this day.

It was pretty difficult to find a suitable track... but with some hack and slash work overnight, I was finally satisfied with the result.

Cutthroat Island is a good film and a great pirate film, really.
There's not many pirate films, so one that looks and sounds as good as that one can't possibly be all bad. :no
 
I might just go ahead with Act 4, which will appear much less seasick than earlier footage because a big ship just came into play...

Problem is getting her and the caravel back to Curacao because I seem to be drawing a lot of attention from hostile navies.
