Big PC crash with Build 12...

Hi, first thanks for such a great mod, it looks so great. Alas, I am having troubles enjoying it because of an odd crash.

It only happens when I am on an island, and can happen at any time, I havn't found any pattern for it yet. But what it does is that while I am walking, the screen goes black for a second and the PC restarts completly <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> Without even giving a hint of what went wrong ....

So of course it's a bit frustrating. And I don't know what could cause it. I hadn't played POTC for ages, but when noticed Build 12 was out yesterday, I downloaded it and installed a fresh copy of POTC on my PC. So that means that I have installed everything directly without tweaking one bit.

I hope that someone can help me identify the problem and maybe even fix it if possible.

Oh, and I have another problem also: sometime the sound just dissapears completly, and I have to restart the PC for it too come back. And that doesn't happen with other games (just recently finished Half Life 2).
 
I had the problem of the PC just restarting for no apparent reason every once in awhile. It was my video card overheating because the fan was broken. So after I replaced the fan the problem stopped. Now it may only happen in games that require alot of graphics.

It may be your video card getting too hot.

But since you said the sound cuts out too, your sound card may also be overheating, or it could be the CPU itself that's overheating, or the power box.

I suggest you check to make sure all your fans are working.
 
Oh buggers..... probably the fans.... I think I'll just have to get a tech wiz friend of mine to check out the tower.

Another thing you may want to try is lowering the resolution from 32 bit to 16 bit in the game, it's possible your display adapter can't handle the graphic load in POTC build 12 <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Or you could check to make sure the drivers for the display adapter and graphics card arew up to date
