This came up a few days ago on the official Bucc forum. If you have been following Skull's forum thread about this game you would have read that the guys at Stickman were planning a relaunch with extra content, multiplayer and offering a boxed version of Buccaneer to go along with the original recipe Steam version.
Well, it looks like it's getting close as Harv mentions in their forum thread.

Well, we've been working REALLY hard behind the scenes.
We're still testing but we've now got:
Dedicated Servers !!! Still finishing this up but it's currently pretty seamless and should really help the multiplayer community. Anyone can set up a dedicated server by double clicking a file. Others can now use these servers to host multiplayer games, just as though they're using their own PC.
A huge, completely re-written server system, using a very well known HUGE multiplayer SDK that we'll be announcing at GDC later this month. Most people will no longer even have to port forward their routers. It just works ! We're VERY excited about this one
Two extra download channels for Buccaneer...neither of which will require a game hosting service to be running in the background, and a potentially huge audience.
Demo players and Full price players will now be able to play against each other in Multiplayer, Demo players will only have one Buccaneer ship and one Crown ship available though...Again, we think this will be another way to start filling the servers up with new cannon fodder.
Still working on this, but 10 Co-op multiplayer levels, using the new multiplayer matchmaking system too. You and a shipmate taking on waves of rock hard Corsair A.I.
And a couple of extras ( one of them very exciting ) we can't talk about probably until GDC.
We'll be doing a re-launch of Buccaneer around April time with all of these new features added to the new version, PLUS we're adding them for free to the existing Steam game and patching it at the same time.
We're almost there !!
