Commonwealth Flag and Emblem

Over Christmas I was down in VA with relatives, and had SMP along on my laptop (not quite fast enough but playable at lowest everything). Since P!G is one of four games I keep always on hand for laptopping (SMGetty/Antietam and Civ2 and 3 and Sim Copter being the others, well OK five and do you detect a pattern excepting SC? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />).
Anyhow, my point is this. Being a fan of the shortlived (and somewhat `wart-y`, but nothing's perfect) Commonwealth, and inspired by Fab's & Davos's historical flags packs, I had to make some flags.

(And a big thanks to Flags of the World, without whom I wouldn't have known what to make. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ).

(You will note in the former that the date is 1684. Ah, what might have been...)

Readme:
This pack includes replacement British flags (for nation status, map city ownership, and ingame town and ship) for when Britain was a Commonwealth (`1649-1653`). It also includes a redone sail emblem with the Commonwealth blazon (with Cromwell's personal arms) instead of the single Cross of St. George. Note that this is simply a modification of Firaxis's emblem, not the correct arms (nor is it indeed clear that the Commonwealth before the Protectorate _had_ arms; I am by no means an expert and this is most all through googling).

In fact the selection of flags is not entirely accurate period, with the ensign being something of a combination of the Commonwealth ensign (quartered St. George and St. Andrew) and the Protectorate ensign (which adds the Irish harp but also Cromwell's lion). I do not know whether this flag as included was ever flown.

Let alone Blake's fleet reorganization and the red, white, and blue ensigns resulting.

So in sum, take all flags included with a healthy grain of salt; they are at worst artistic license but even so an (I hope) interesting alternative to the Cross of St. George or later the Union.

Installation:
Make a backup of flag_eng.dds in your Custom folder (or rename to flag_en1.dds as suggested by Fab), then extract flag_eng.dds, ship_sail_emblem_lrg_eng.dds, and CW.fpk to your Custom folder. Do not extract the folder ("Uncompressed") to your custom folder.

However, if you wish to use this pack in conjunction with another flag pack (For example Fab's Historical Flag Pack, either normal or P!G Spain ("cyl") ), you must do two things. First, install that pack before this one; second, extract all dds files in the archive (including the ones in the "Uncompressed" folder) and place them all in your Custom folder (deleting the empty folder "Uncompressed" when done). Known issue: the town flags will show up in the Flag Selection screen, and look as if they are doubled up; simply ignore them.

Note: If you are unable to select the new CW flag for your ship, open your custom folder and make a copy of flag_eng.dds and rename it flag_cw.dds. It should then show up correctly.
