I have posted and been reading about firstly system locks up then crashes to desktop and it seems most people (90%) seem to have all agreed that the game worked fine to start with then they either changed something (or nothing in some cases) and game started this problem.
Now I have been reading alot of posts on this (and enough to warrant Atari looking in to it for us, you know the people who actutualy bought and registered the game!) and it seems that a combination of AMD Chipsets and or Direct X issue seem to be the primary noticable denominator.
Well I looked at what had happened in my case (as in what did I change since last playing SMP) and to make matters worse there were several things I had done. First was I disabled on board sound (which was enabled when I installed SMP) and placed my SB Live 5.1 DD sound card back in my system and installed drivers, could be something there I suspect, your thoughts on the sound/crashes ?
Next was I had replaced the two sticks of 256 meg RAM to one stick of DDR 400+ RAM 512, system has been a little quirky but as a whole (again 95% of the time runs fine).
So there you have it, in my case RAM change and Sound Card installed, if I had to bet I would also agree with the guy who did post "check out your sound card" that it could be a sound driver issue which is causing these freezes and desktop crashes (in my case reboots my PC <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> )
So for those having this issue check out different options (mabye remove sound card and try onboard) but whatever you do post a reply so we can get this fixed and also let Atari know (I am going to you can be sure of that) didn't pay near on $100.00 Aussie for a DVD that only works when it feels like it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Cheers all
