Crew Hp Value's

Well i think the only way to make the game more challanging is to increase crew hp so that grape and bombs shots don't kill them as quick and easily as they do at the moment which means capturing ships is far too easy. So if there is a way to increase the hp of the crew that would be much better and i could then finally have a much more realistic mod, Any idea's where i could find the crew hp?

Thanks in advance
Luke.

Luke, I like how your thinking, but think there should somehow be some bonuses or exceptions. BTW I have been playing your mast and ship hp mod on my laptop. I didn't want to start a new game on my mother PC. So far I like what you've done, but when I progress to the really big ships I'll let you know. The one thing I've noticed is that you can't hurt the bigger ships very well with smaller ones which I think is pretty realistic. Pirates/privateers usually were able to overtake bigger ships that either were severely undermanned, or the pirate sloop was faster and packed to the gills with humanity that would overwhelm the larger ship during boarding.

On the grapeshot we know historically that in some instances it could be devastating. A single broadside of grape fired from the right position of advantage, could render the opposing crew incapable of continuing the fight. So while the ship is extremely tough and great shelter for it's crew, the fleshy crunchies on top - not so much. I'm with CAP Maggee on tuning the grape down rather than the crew hp up, but if we could give it a behavior modifier at close range, it's lethality doubles, and if somehow we could get it to recognize when we(or the enemy)are in a raking position with the bow or stern facing our broadside, maybe we give it triple lethality. :shrug

One more thing I'm thinking about and I know this would turn our nicely simple grape into a fairly complex behavior, but if we could make the entry arguement a Z comparison of the gun plaform height, there are no effects (or negligible) if the firing platform isn't equal or greater than the opposing ship's Z at deck level. If the grape is at the same level (or close to) the deck it will have effects, if not it is absorbed by the hull. I enjoy the game as it is, but we should entertain some more complex behaviors eventually. :yes

Of course why didn't i think of that, reduce the damage coursed via the grape and bombs. I will look into that and see how the tests go. In the mean time i have made an edit to what is refered to as crew hp the problem is, is it really changing the crew hp or is it just refering to it. Anyway the edits was made and i will get myself the Suprise and attack a single ship using grape shots and then try again with the same ship etc with the default value's and see if there was any changes. At the moment i'm using the Black Pearl 36, 32 pounder cannons against a Galleon and i have fired about 6 broadsides at her and i've only killed i think 140 crewmembers so far which makes me think that the changes i have made are working, but i would rather test it with a Frigate or a Man Of War since those are ships i like to use when testing things out.

Excellent modernknight1, its good to get some feedback on that mod. Sounds like you've been having some fun, i can't remember what the speed of the Sloop was but i understand where your coming from. I will make a note of ship speeds to be checked and edited if make more realistic feeling for the ship its self. Of course i have made the ships Black Pearl and the Interceptor are very fast but perhaps too fast compared to ships like the Sloop. Thanks for letting me know what your thourghts are about the ship and cannon hp mod.

I will let you know how the testing goes on the crew and then the shot types been edited and see if a better ballance can be found, also your idea's about making certain area's of the ships more weaker to grape shots is a nice idea since the stern is the weakest part of the ship it for getting to the crew in side her while the deck is obviously the most dangerous and weakest, having the game recognise those as weak spots would make the use of the grape shots been more of a tactical dission rather than a quick way to end a battle and claim a ship.

Ok where do i find the file for the shot types and the damage they each do, because i have a headache now and i know i've seen it i just can't remember where. :facepalm
