Divide the Plunder

Occasionally, I will notice when I am in town, that "Divide the Plunder" is not an option. It shows on the menu, but I can't select it. I'm sure this is appropriate, according to circumstance...but what are the circumstances where you cannot divide the plunder? I don't remember that ever being the case in the original.

Also, the manual says "Sun Sighting" has been taken out for the remake. What was it? It must not have been a big deal, because I don't remember it at all.

Sounds like staring at the sun until you go blind and get to wear eyepatches. Okay, I don't really know about that one. I don't think I ever used it in the old version, if I did I wasn't aware of it.

To divide the plunder, I think you need a pretty decent amount of gold. I know that when I start in 1620 and I get 10 gold to start with, obviously I cannot divide the plunder (it is shaded in the option menu). Even If I could, my crew would probably get right angry with me after they each receive less than a gold coin a'piece. I usually don't even think about dividing plunder untill I see where each man gets at least 100 coins. Supposedly, an officer aboard your ship will let you know when the crew gets restless and wants to divide the plunder, but I haven't seen this in the game yet (which is fine with me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

I was expecting the first mate or somebody to tell me the crew was ready for some liberty, but I guess I have too many specialists...

Between the cook, the cooper and the quartermaster I was harassing the Spaniards up and down the Main for 28 months with nary a complaint! That was at Journeyman level. The only reason I divided was to step up to Adventurer.

Now, I can't dance anymore. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> The girls don't give me enough notice before I'm supposed to do the move. I need to find the slippers.

I don't remember the time constraint on dividing the plunder -

Always remember though - the more crew you have the harder it is to keep them happy!

Sun Sighting involved you having a paper map that game with the game and looking through a device to line up with the sun to determine your latitude and longitude. You could then look at your map to determine your location.

This was most helpful when sailing in the open ocean. Sailing the shores you always knew where you were. But in the open ocean ... you could get lost.

I think I remember something odd about the plunder. Like you can't divide until a year has passed on Apprentice level or something like that... Seems like there was a beta thread about it. Gah... my short term memory is shot! I blame Sid Meier!
