What's the background story of Drakensang?
Informations about the story are rare. But there are some approaches:
In the beginning there is a quest from the church of Hesinde. Once every 87 years the church calls for a special “dragon questâ€. You're job is to fulfill the tasks of this large quest. The prize: The magic shield of the dragonslayer Fendral. This is an invaluable reward for every adventure, magical items are extremely rare in the world of Aventuria. But since your hero is quite young and inexperienced in adventuring, you have to prove yourself before you are allowed to participate in this quest. Maybe the mysterious series of murder in the town of Ferdok is a possibility to do so?
What does the world of Drakensang look like? Are there different factions or guilds the player can join? What is the emphasis of Drakensang?
Like the story, the regions where the game takes place are almost unknown. At RatCon 2006, Ferdok was uncovered as the central town in Drakensang and will be implemented completely after the guidelines of the TDE rule set (also see the map). Ferdok is a town in the Middenrealms, so it seems you will travel this region most of the time. The Middenrealms, also called the Empire, are situated in the heart of Aventuria and can be best compared to medieval Europe. You will also travel some more exotic places in the world of Aventuria, but where exactly is not yet known.
There are some factions and groups you will discover during the course of the game. Some are friendly to you, some less so. There are always conflicts between these groups and you can decide to help one side or the other. Your decisions influence the game further on. You won't be able to join one of these groups permanently like a guild. Your hero remains independent from such restrictive organizations.
Radon Labs wants to rebuild the atmosphere of Aventuria within Drakensang. Like the creators of TDE, Radon Labs use models of real medieval castles and buildings as templates for their own structures within the game. Experienced TDE gamers will recognize some of the most prominent characters of Aventuria, i. e. the arch druid Archon Megalon
Is the story of Drakensang linear? Are the different endings? What's the emphasis of Drakensang?
Drakensang's main story is linear, besides your death there should be only one possible end sequence. Variety comes through several side quests that can be handled quite flexible. Of course, most quests offer multiple solutions.
Drakensang is a modern, tactical-orientated RPG with a strong emphasis on story and reference to the world of the TDE pen & paper ruleset. The concept of Drakensang's main story was designed by experienced TDE authors - around 1000 pages of story directives, game world descriptions and advices for an authentic PC conversion of Aventuria and its several landscapes.
