East India Trading Company Building

magicscreenman

Landlubber
I've gone to the exact location specified and none of the doors teleport me anywhere when I approach them. None of them can even be opened.

I'm playing Alpha 9.5 Patch 1. I've heard the patch messes up this part of the game. Is that confirmed or does the problem stem from something else? I know I'm not the only one who's ran into this. Solutions are appreciated.

When you arrive at Port Royale Cutler Beckett should talk to you immediately on the jetty. this should activate the EITC building.

If he does not talk to you, is not there, or talks to you somewhere else( ie Captains Cabin) it will not work.

If Cutler Beckett does not appear on the jetty, it could be because of the moor command, ( the game does not like moor when an NPC starts dialog immediately after you land for some reason) when you land in port Royale use the Port/shore option and hopefully Beckett will appear on the jetty and talk to you.

Damn. I already talked to him on the cabin. Guess that means I have to start all over?

The thing is I DID use the Port/Shore option and Beckett still didn't appear in the pier. That's why I jumped over to his cabin. Any theories on why he didn't show, or what I could do specifically to make sure he shows next time?

You should only have to go back to a save before you set sail for Port Royale.

Why he does or does not show is a mystery to me - it usually takes me 4 or 5 attempts to get him to appear. It appears he does not like night- time, Sundays or if its raining. Seriously though I usually try to time my arrival in port royale arround midday say between 10.00 and 16. 00 and after several attempts he appears. (after he has talked to me I quickly save the game with great relief)

Perhaps he is just living up to his character's reputation in the movie and being a nasty bugger.

Unfortunately I have no save files from before I talked to him on the cabin. I didn't know it would generate a problem so I quickly saved after making the nice little trip from Barbados to Jamaica x_x

Oh well; now that I know what to do, it won't take all that long to get back to where I was. Thanks for the detailed suggestions! Hopefully I can get it to work this time around.

I hope that your problem is fixed magicscreenman

Can you please not post the same problem on multiple threads though, it will be looked at when someone who knows about it comes on the forum (which usually doesn't take long anyway)

All I can ask is please be patient and the reply will come, and if it doesn't for awhile it probably means someone is trying to duplicate your problem and is currently playing the game.

Thanks Captain Maggee

Remember the mod is still only an Alpha , and there will be crashes and other problems - As the installation notes say - "Save often" - you cannot have too many saves. ( the game allows you 40 before you have to empty the saves folder )

Indeed; the "save often" advice really is one you really should not ignore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Theres many seemingly random problems that we haven't yet been able to fix, but usually reloading from a previous save gets you past it.
When doing so does not work, that's the time to let us know.
Anyway, the next patch should improve matters, I should think. And soon I'll have lots of spare time and will actually be able to test things myself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Is that supposed to be in Redmond? cause i don't know what the hell you're talking about, i saw no special looking building there and regardless how many times i tried reloading it at different times of day (from a new game even) no one approaches me when i first enter port."I've gone to the exact location specified"..specified where? there's shit for info on this game anywhere relative to the basic gameplay mechanics/walkthroughs, it's ridiculous. i mean i tried searching the forums for what exactly each skill contributes to and apparently NO ONE KNOWS? so where is this place supposed to be, and does it actually serve a purpose worth try to get the glitchy crap to work..

Yes it is on Redmond.

First question... Have you actually done anything with Beckett?
Second question... If you are escorting him do you use Port/Shore when coming into the port?
Third question... The building isnt special it just reloads you straight to it, have you gone up to the doors just to the write of the gate that leads to the port at entrance of town?

Statement... If you don't go to this building it is not possible to finish the quest!

What skills contribute to what? If you start the standard storyline, during the tutorial Malcolm Hatcher actually tells you.
He also tells you how to get your skills to increase.

But I agree that the documentation for the modpack is shady at best; we want to make a proper manual, really we do,
but it won't happen unless somebody makes it. And despite our recent progress, we're still spread thin.
But if you have any questions, people here will try to help you and you'll get the answer even without documentation. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Ah i'll have to go through the beginning dialogue again, but Maggee based on the small amount of information i read i was under the assumption the first time you enter the port of Redmond that beckett is supposed to talk to you on the dock. is that wrong or does that happen later in the storyline as part of a quest or something? cause nothing happens normally.

For the East India trading Co. building you should be playing the Legend of Jack Sparrow quest ( I don't think it appears in any of the other quests ).

Whatever storyline you follow in the quest at sometime Cutler Beckett will meet you in the tavern in Speightstown, Barbados and hire you to escort him to Port Royale, Jamaica. (this must happen)

In order for the EITC building to work. When you land in Port Royale Cutler Beckett should walk up to you on the jetty, thank you for escorting him, and tell you where the building is and tell you to go there for payment. When you approach the door you should be automatically taken inside.

This bit is "buggy" and tempremental at the moment. It usually takes me 4 or 5 appempts before I can get C Beckett to appear on the jetty.

But it is worth it

Thanks again Talisman, you are very good at explaining <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

However one bit of your information <i>can</i> be different.
In one of the routes you can take you get the "Here is 10 000 gold coins earn a profit" in Speightstown (Oxbay) and that opens the building up then and no Beckett on the jetty.

But otherwise 100% correct <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Is this in the choices after refusing to help Shaypen at Gray Rock bay?

If yes - then when I have included this in the path I follow I get to a dead end ( bug / trap ) - the govenor never appears in jamaica to take his daughters back and give me a reward.

Please don't tell me I have to keep the Brin girls with me for the rest of the storyline <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> They would drive me nuts.

I will have to try it again and see if I can get through <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

If this is the option with going to see Skull you should be able to get rid of them. You don't sail to Jamaica first (if that what you were doing) you need to sail to Bridgetown.

Im not 100% on what to do (and I'm going by memory) but you need to do something in Bridgetown and this will make it possible to deliver the daughters back to their father <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Playing the Mings line, I've been trying to make Beckett NOT show up. No luck so far.
It all works, including Beckett appearing and the EITC building being there and filled with the correct people.
If I understand correctly, wasn't it supposed to break if you only used F3 to land in Port Royale, instead of Enter>Port?
Because I tried that and it still works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

This time I started a new game and tried to play the way a beginning player might play.
Didn't talk to Tipman or Thomas the Terror, sailed to Barbados. Talked with Lt. Bligh, then Mings, Beckett.
Sailed to Port Royale, used F3 to go to my ship, then reloaded to port. All still worked as intended. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
Can anyone give me some specific pointers on how to break it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

For something that has happened to a lot of people it seems really hard to get <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
