Back on topic - here's another screeny - finally figured out the whole thing about generating a group of soldiers to run at them over the bridge:

Now the way it should be, when all of them get on the bridge, the guy standing where the arrow is pointing (Armand) should join up and attack the soldiers from THAT end, while you and your officers (including E and probably FB) will take care of the bunch at your end!
Haven't yet gotten A to do his thing - still fumbling around with that code. But hey - when I got those soldiers to do the run, whooHOO! It's a real rush, having them all come at you like that.
I wanted to do it like the French soldier rush to the dock when you're doing the main quest - the one where you're about to steal the French ship (the one they stole from the English)... And finally I got it to work!
Testing this is tedious, removing bugs, setting parameters, win conditions (urgh)... I am going to be so glad when it's over so I can enjoy playing it myself (all the way through) and actually get some ENJOYMENT out of it...

Think I'll put up another little update in a few. I've been looking at something I created for the quest that I think (IMHO) looks pretty neat.
