Help needed getting away from Barbados

Hi, just bought this game a few weeks back and I cannot seem to get away from my starting island of Barbados.

When I sail out beyond a certain radius and then click on Map mode and switch back to ship mode, I get "teleported" waaay back. If I sail all the way in ship mode to say Martinique I cannot see the Fort de France even though I have the quest to steal the blue prints.

Is there something I need to do (quests) and some item I need to be able to get out?

All I do right now is I sail out, engage some pirates and spaniards, steal their loot and ships.

If you sail on world mapo view and only enter 3D sailing when either in battle or near an island you will get to each island, i don't think you can actually sail from one islands port to another in 3D mode yet i believe you can sail to each island in this mode though, hopefully soon we will be able to sail not just to each island but to each port in 3D sailing mode.

Till then use the world map to get to where you want to go, its quicker and easier. As soon as the option to enter world map appears use it only sail in 3D mode when given tasks to hunt down a pirate ship preying on merchants in the area (given to you as random quests by any govener of any nation) In that quest you MUST remain in 3D sailing mode and sail around the island in search for the pirate ship.

Thanks Luke, I'll give it a try. And I read on another thread that you can sail in the map mode using the WSAD keys, I think I pressed evey button except those (duh!). I guess I won't be the first one to say that we need a better manual. Thanks again!

Your welcome, happy i could help out.

Oh erm ye4s and there are the key's lol, i changed the 3D sailing mode key's to the arrow key's ie, left for turning left, right for right, up to set sail and down to rig the sails. But in world map sailing the key's remain the same, WASD. Hopefully now you will be having fun sinking many ships.
