How do you trade in `non-sacked` enemy ports?

Hi

I've tried sneaking into enemy ports.
I've managed to get to the tavern, and also the governers house.
I have also got both levels of the disguise that are available as special items.

However, I cannot find a merchant to trade with. Whenever I leave the tavern or the governers house I get thrown straight back out to sea. I've searched all of the town and cannot find anything else that I can enter.

Sometimes, you still can enter a town peacefully while at war with the faction, whch can case the Trader not to barter with you. In this case, the disguises help, but not for trading with a town which actually fires at you... in that case, you can either try to improve your relationshipswith this faction, or just sack it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Sidenote: you can't trade when sneaking into town. The merchant probably sleeps, after all it's night and everything. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I think the only way you can trade with an enemy nations town is;

1. They do not fire at you on site.
2. You have the moustache and or the disguise.

Your reputation may not be so bad yet that some enemy towns will let you sail into them, especially the poorer ones. However they DO know that you are a pirate and may not trade with you on principle. That is where the disguise comes in. If they do not recognize you, they do not know you are a pirate. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

I am sure others can add more info. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Note: You can always trade with a settlement regardless of affiliation. But they never have very much money or goods.

Jesuit missions and indian villages are also sources of trade, though mostly only food and never alot. Still, it's something.

Yep, great point. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Thanks for the info ppl. You have saved me from countless fruitless hours looking around a town for a merchant that does not exist.!!
