This telescope has delivered so much science it is almost unfathomable, it has certainly lived up to it's namesake!

asa's Hubble telescope captures breathtaking images of the Monocerotis star's explosion and its aftermath over a span of four years In early 2002, astronomers witnessed an enormous explosion emanating from V838 Monocerotis, a red star located some 20,000 light years away from the Earth's Sun.

As it burst, V838 created an expanding light echo -- where light from a stellar explosion bounces off dust surrounding the star -- which the Hubble telescope captured in a series of images between 2002 and 2006.
The light eruption was so bright that for a while it was one of the most luminous stars in the Milky Way

Indeed! I am really wanting to see what the James Webb Telescope will deliver. This telescope has a more advanced design, much higher resolution and can look at longer wave lengths than Hubble, which basically meaning it can look farther back in time.

Just one problme, they actually have to get it in to space first!! It was supposed to launch this year, but as with everything NASA, it has ran into all kinds of setbacks and delays and won't launch till at least 2015. :modding

I have a calendar with a series of Hubble images for each month, and this month's image is of that same star. :cheeky

Hubble and its work has fascinated me for years, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Webb can deliver.
