I need help finding a game

ok, i found a thread on here about freelancer and X tension and X and X 2 and such and it sounded like a game that im trying to find, but when i went to go see what the games looked like, they are too new and advanced for the game im looking for. Here is a list of things that i can remember about the game that im looking for:
1. starts off in a "shuttle"
2. you can be a trader, help pirates, freelance, or join/help a military force.
3. space based.
4. open flight.
5. trade on planets.
6. cant walk around.
7. board ships, piss off military and get banned from solar systems. raid ships, upgrade ships/weapons, add ships and pilots to your fleet.
8. In the demo, a guy (pirate? captain?) flys by and says buy the game everyonce in awhile.
9. screen is strategy style, not 1st or 3rd person.

The only game that I ever played that even remotely sounds like this one is Starflight I and II, here's a link to a site about the two games:

I don't even remember how long it has been since I played this game, but the 5.25 Disks will give people some idea. Hope this is the one you've been looking for, because there are links to emulators on this site.

I do remember some of the funniest moments in playing the game involved the ship to ship communication where saying the wrong thing could get you banned from a particular solar system.

Privateer by Origin was like that. You start off in a shuttle, trade on planets, help or fight pirates or military. Can upgrade your ship and can't walk around ...

The screen wasn't stategy though. You were in the cockpit.

as far as i can tell, its not either of the games that you guys mentioned. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> i downloaded freelancer and it reminds me of the game im looking for just newer. any thoughts?
