Kuma Games Announces Maersk Alabama Hijacking-Inspired Title

Episodic video game developer Kuma Games has announced Somali Showdown: Pirates on the High Seas, a PC multiplayer action game that puts players in the middle of a pirate attack on a commercial cargo ship.

The game is inspired by the recent Maersk Alabama hijacking, in which Somali pirates captured a U.S. container ship and held its captain hostage.

Somali Showdown allows players to take on the role of either a crew member or an invading pirate aboard a captured vessel.

During a simulated hijacking, crew members will attempt to fend off the pirates and regain control of the ship's operations room. Players joining the game as pirates will try to take over the operations room and sail the ship into Somali waters.

The game is part of Kuma Games' Kuma\War series, an episodic collection of downloadable online games inspired by real-world conflicts. Previous episodes in the series focus on World War II, the Vietnam War, and modern events in Iraq.

Somali Showdown: Pirates on the High Seas will be released as a free download on Kuma Games' website on May 7th.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

"I'm sorry, Abdul, you cannot go out hyjacking with your friends until you beat the game." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />

Oookay. That's a little too weird for my liking. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Perhaps it was really Kuma employees who attempted to hijack the ship in the first place so they'd have an excuse to make their game?

How many Somali pyrates they be a hirin' fer consultants? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think some of those pirates could definitely use the training! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

It's up on their web page now, under the Kuma War series. I haven't decided if I am even going to take a look at it. I tried downloading the WWII dog fight simulator and installed it this morning, I wasn't that impressed. After the 3 or 4 commercials I was forced to watch, and the other crap it installed, they wouldn't even let me use my game pad to fly the plane. I had to use my mouse ....mice werent meant to fly! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Did they lost their minds!?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Butbutbut...Mercenaries 2 is ad-supported, so why ain't it free? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Because Electronic Arse decided to get more money shoved up it's ass. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
