I have recently noticed that all hired officers in taverns at the start of the game (Build 14 A4) have <u>all</u> of their skills at 1 (8%). Therefore there seems to be very little benefit in hiring an officer, unless, on the few that you are able to select an ability/perk on the officer. And with the slow skills progression (which I think is great) it will take a long time to receive any benefit - in fact yur randomised starting stas/percentages will probably result in your character levelling up before the offcier?
However, this did not happen until I re-installed Alpha 4 without running RunMe.bat in order to get the mutiny screen working properly (as suggested on the bug tracker). Before then I was able to pick up, for example, a quartermaster with 2 in commerce/repair + he had quick repair/trustworthy lad perks.
Has anybody else experienced this or have any suggestions?
